About us
After Russia’s unprovoked and brutal invasion of Ukraine, a group of rail experts came together and created the Global Ukraine Rail Task Force. The Task Force is an advisory body and the members are all volunteers working in individual capacities. The primary task of the Global Ukraine Rail Task Force is to provide a roundtable to analyse the impact of Russia’s aggressive invasion on Ukraine’s rail sector and to seek solutions. The twin goals are to address the humanitarian crisis enveloping the rail sector as well as rebuilding the rail infrastructure to replace war damage and meet the long term needs of a democratic Ukraine linked to the West. The Task Force's four objectives are: 1) Address the humanitarian crisis, 2) Rebuild the Ukrainian rail sector infrastructure, 3) Address passenger rail capacity, 4) Maximise freight capacity. The Task Force is chaired by: Jolene Molitoris; Former Administrator of the United States Federal Railroad Administration Nick Brooks; Secretary General of the Alliance of Passenger Rail New Entrants in Europe – ALLRAIL.

Today is a very poignant day, as we mark the 1000th day of the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Set up in March 2022, with the specific goal of helping the Ukrainian rail system, our Global Ukraine Rail Task Force today reaffirms our unwavering commitment to stand with Ukrainian rail workers and their families. They are the 2nd Army during this Russian aggression. Among the many activities around the world today to mark this sombre anniversary, we welcome the European Parliament's special event in Brussels, in which the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took part remotely. We will be there to help the Ukrainian rail sector until this unjust war comes to an end - and beyond. #WeStandWithUkraine #ForAsLongAsItTakes

Today is Railway Workers' Day in Ukraine. We continue stand with АТ "Укрзалізниця" workers on the frontline. We are proud that our #KitForKyiv campaign has raised £65,000 to protect Ukrainian train drivers and assistant drivers working in high-risk regions. Known in Ukraine as the ‘Iron People', Ukrainian train drivers are often working in dangerous areas and are the last to leave territories under attack. Even away from the frontline, stations are often targeted by missiles and drones. There has been an urgent need for protective equipment to keep them safe while they’re at work and the money has now been raised to fund the protective gear for Ukrainian train drivers in high-risk regions. Thank you to our members including gold donors Arriva Group, DB Cargo (UK) Limited, FirstGroup plc and Transport UK Group, silver donors The Go-Ahead Group and MTR Corporation (UK) Limited, and bronze donor GB Railfreight who donated to our campaign.
