When disasters strike, animals are often the forgotten victims. But protecting animals in emergencies means protecting entire communities—because their welfare is directly linked to human well-being, food security, and livelihoods. At a recent high-level event, "From resilience to recovery: the role of animals in humanitarian crises", in Brussels, experts, policymakers, and NGOs gathered to discuss the need for integrating animal welfare into disaster response frameworks. Disaster risk reduction strategies must integrate animal protection to prevent suffering, reduce economic losses, and support resilience for farmers, pet owners, and wildlife. 💡 The EU has an opportunity to set a global example by ensuring that animals are no longer left behind when catastrophes hit. 🐾 VISONI ANCORA IN TRAPPOLA: LA POLITICA INTERVENGA ORA! 🐾 ❗️ Un nuovo focolaio di SARS-CoV-2 in un ex allevamento di visoni in Lombardia - segnalato da LAV Italia - riporta alla luce un problema che non può più essere ignorato: centinaia di visoni sopravvissuti al bando del 2022 sono ancora confinati negli allevamenti, senza alcuna certezza sul loro futuro. 📢 Per questo, la Senatrice Dolores Bevilacqua ha presentato una nuova interrogazione parlamentare, sostenuta da Humane World for Animals, per chiedere al Governo di intervenire con urgenza. Dal 2022, abbiamo ribadito la necessità di disciplinare la cessione e il trasferimento di questi animali presso strutture sicure e gestite dalle associazioni. Tuttavia, i decreti attuativi non sono mai stati emanati, lasciando i visoni in condizioni precarie, con continue epidemie che mettono a rischio la loro salute e la salute pubblica. Dei 5.700 visoni presenti nel 2022, oggi ne rimangono meno di 500. In occasione della #MilanoFashionWeek e del #WorldWildlifeDay rilanciamo il nostro appello ai brand della moda italiana e internazionale per mettere fine all’uso di pellicce! L'industria della moda deve assumersi la responsabilità di adottare politiche fur-free, proprio come ha fatto recentemente il Max Mara Fashion Group, che ha risposto alla nostra campagna e ha finalmente eliminato la pelliccia dalle proprie collezioni. 💪 Humane World for Animals è stata in prima linea nella battaglia che ha portato all’introduzione del divieto di allevare animali per la produzione di pellicce in Italia. The Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) recently voted on the draft proposal on Common Data Platform on Chemicals, which is part of the One Substance One Assessment (OSOA). The proposed Regulation aims to ensure the efficient delivery of coherent hazard and risk assessments of chemicals, by bringing together data and information on chemicals and ensure that data and information are easily findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable.   All compromise amendments supported by Humane World for Animals and the animal protection organisations we collaborate with on this were adopted by the Committee. They ensure that this proposed Regulation contributes to the goal of phasing out animal testing wherever possible, gives priority to the use of non-animal methods, with animal testing on vertebrate animals only as a last resort.   The plenary vote is scheduled on 2 April 2025.
