HUBiquitous H2020
IT Services and IT Consulting
Empowering innovative startup ecosystems through collaboration of African & European Digital Innovation Hubs
About us
Digital technologies are forever changing the way goods and services are designed, produced and commercialised. To support businesses in this digital transformation, the EU is investing in digital innovation hubs (DIHs) at home and abroad. The EU-funded HUBiquitous project is creating a joint Africa-Europe Startup & Innovation Ecosystem for long-term collaborations and partnerships. Specifically, we are empowering the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems and increasing the technology level and capacity building of 30 local DIHs/TechHubs in five African countries. Backed by a consortium of five European and four African partners from eight countries, the project is building on the existing cooperation and partnership stemming from two previous Horizon 2020 ICT International Collaborations with Africa projects (WAZIUP, WAZIHUB). Do you want to know how we are doing this? Follow us! Applications for the TecHub Catalyst Program are now open! Apply by January 15th, 2024, and access funding, IoT training, and an incredible opportunity to drive innovation. Click Visit Website to Apply.

🌟Tomorrow is a big day for us as we present our “Smart IoT Agriculture & Automated Irrigation System” project, designed as a greenhouse. We’ve put in a tremendous effort to achieve first place in the FabLab Mogadishu Hackathon. Our project is not just about technology it’s a practical solution to climate challenges in Somalia, such as drought and water scarcity. It contributes to improving water efficiency and sustainably increasing crop yields. Let’s see what tomorrow holds! #IoT_Certification_Program HUBiquitous H2020

From 2021 to 2024, we spent three years supporting European and African Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) through capacity building and networking. We were part of AfriConEU – a consortium of 11 organizations from Europe and Africa, working across tech, academia, social enterprises, not-for-profit and policy including INOVA+ Youthmakers Hub Emerging Communities Africa Buni Hub hapaSpace Collaborative Hub Porto Business School Outbox Uganda dpixel Stimmuli For Social Change and ITC - Innovation Technology Cluster In our most recent blog, we summarise our 3 main takeaways impacting digital transformation in Africa. 🔑 African Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) play a unique and central role in local innovation ecosystems. From community convening, skills training to policy advocacy, the breadth and cross-cutting nature of the roles that African DIHs play is unique to the region. As such, African DIHs have a lot to teach the world about cross-sector collaboration which is critical for sustainable development. 📌 Despite their crucial role, African DIHs remain under-resourced. We found that currently, the funding made available to DIHs is often structured in ways that do not allow hubs develop robust organisations or sustainably carry out their work. There is a need to develop funding models that are tailored to the unique needs of DIHs and for catalytic capital - capital that takes a long-term view and is invested in the development of the ecosystem rather than in short-term gains. 💱 An emerging EU-Africa innovation ecosystem is unlocking opportunities for both regions. A joint EU-Africa innovation ecosystem is developing rapidly thanks to EU-funded Horizon 2020 projects like AfriConEU, ENRICH in Africa - EiA, AEDIB|NET, DIGILOGIC_EU and HUBiquitous H2020 as well as thriving networks and communities such as London Africa Network and StArfrica - Startup Germany-Africa . While this ecosystem faces a unique set of challenges, not least historic power imbalances and cultural differences, our joint work with EU and African partners showcased the immense impact that trans-continental digital innovation collaboration can bring. At this day and age, with tech being the centre of the current fourth industrial revolution #4IR, everything is evolving so quickly. It is wisdom, with this in mind, to take up opportunities presenting themselves at the table to also grow, especially leveraging on the tech community around. With IOT and AI being the fields of my interest, I embarked on a journey alongside a team from IEEE DeKUT SB, Dekut Innovators Club sponsored by HUBiquitous H2020, Waziup e.V. and Waziup IoT for an IOT course and wrapped up with a #hackathon, in which my team; Brian Muchai, Levis Chiri, Sylvia Maina, Talitha Rozally, Albert Muga, Glory Chege and Patrick Muli emerged among the best The learning involved the fundamental IoT concepts such as #hardware integration, #communication protocols, #APIs, #ML(TinyML), and Web development for IoT. Big up to the organizers and trainers of this course Nickson Kiprotich Ryan Kiprotich Trevor Mwanzi Moses Kangethe and Mercy Sheila Otuko. I also extend gratitude to the well accomplished judges Joseph Musya Joseph Maina and Emilio Kariuki for sharing insights about also growing the idea into a #startup. Special thanks to the patron Verol Nangáni for the platform. My heart is glad.

Absolutely thrilled to announce that I have completed the comprehensive IoT certification program from Waziup IoT, sponsored by the @European Union and part of the HUBiquitous H2020 program! 🚀 This innovative program, in partnership with DEDAN KIMATHI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (DeKUT) Innovators Club and IEEE DeKUT SB, has provided me with a deep understanding of IoT concepts and technologies through a blend of online and offline sessions. I received hands-on training with the Waziup Solution Box and developed practical skills to design, implement, and troubleshoot IoT solutions. To cap off this enriching experience, I participated in a hackathon organized by HUBiquitous H2020, Waziup IoT, Waziup e.V., IEEE DeKUT SB, and DEDAN KIMATHI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (DeKUT) Innovators Club. Working alongside my talented team members @Zachery Odhiambo, Kenneth Kimosop, and Stephen Munzyu, we applied our knowledge in real-time, solved complex problems, and innovated together. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited about the career opportunities this certification opens up. Thank you, Waziup IoT e.V., for providing such a valuable and enriching experience! Special thanks to Nickson Kiprotich, Verol Nangáni Ochieng, Ryan Kiprotich, Mercy Sheila Otuko, and Moses Kangethe for organizing such a comprehensive and engaging training program and hackathon.
