🍎 Did you know that what your toddler eats today could shape their health tomorrow? Our systematic review just published in Nutrition Reviews reveals the critical role of carbohydrates in early childhood nutrition. 💡 Key Insights for Toddlers (Ages 1–4): - Less sugar, more health: sugar-sweetened drinks and fruit juices consumption may increase BMI and alter body composition later in life. 🚫 - Fiber is the future: non-digestible carbs (dietary fiber) might improve lipid profiles and long-term health. 🌱 - Research gaps: we still need more studies on how carbs impact gut health, cognition, and psychomotor skills in young children. 🔍 🗣️ Why it matters: - For parents & caregivers: evidence-based advice for healthier toddler meals. - For policymakers: data to shape dietary guidelines and food policies for young children. - For food industry: insights to develop nutritious, toddler-friendly products with the right carbohydrates. - For researchers: a call to explore the long-term effects of early childhood nutrition on health outcomes. 🔬 About the study: this work was conducted by an expert group supported by the ILSI Europe Dietary Carbohydrate Task Force and Early Nutrition and Long-Term Health Task Force. The systematic review analysed 31 publications and was carried out in accordance with PRISMA guidelines.
