I always enjoy popping in to Berghaus Ltd HQ in Sunderland. It's an opportunity to catch up with key members of the team there and find out what exciting products or other initiatives are in the pipeline. Today's visit was extra special, as I was there to help BBC Look North learn more about the new Berghaus Adapts project, which went live this week, and aims to make the outdoors accessible to more people who are living with physical disabilities. Through Berghaus Adapts, members of the public can request bespoke changes to clothing and equipment that will help them get into nature. Based at HQ, the brand’s product team will work with a cohort of applicants and adapt kit that allows them to get active in the outdoors in a way that they have so far been prevented from doing. I think it's a brilliant project and it's really pleasing to see Berghaus taking a strong lead on this theme. Accessibility and innovation are core values for the company, which is committed to breaking down boundaries that prevent people from getting outdoors. Berghaus Adapts comes hot on the heels of the launch of the brand's performance hijab and maternity collection, and its ongoing campaigning on issues of diversity and inclusion, through initiatives like the Ascension Series of short films, and support of organisations such as the It's Great Out There Coalition and The Outward Bound Trust. Berghaus Adapts is a key element of this wider work and I'm delighted to help spread the word about its launch. Femke Vesters and Jon Robson from the company did an excellent job of explaining how Berghaus Adapts works to BBC reporter Andy Watson, and showcasing some of the alterations that the company has done for the likes of athletes Ed Jackson and Mick Fowler. Now, more people with physical disabilities will be able to access the outdoors with help from Berghaus Adapts. Well done Berghaus! Look out for a piece on Look North soon and if you can tune in to BBC Radio Newcastle tomorrow morning, Ed Jackson should be on the breakfast show at around 7:20am. 🌟 IGOT 2024 Grant: Ludotempo🌟 Francisco Lontro, founder from Ludotempo shared the joy of working on the Brincar de Rua project: “Designing outdoor activities that were fun, challenging, and educational was an incredible journey. Seeing the kids’ excitement and hearing their feedback weeks later made it all worthwhile. We helped create memories they’ll cherish!” This 6-day outdoor project brought together 123 kids from 3 schools in Leiria, Portugal giving them the chance to explore, play, and learn in a natural setting🙏 Did you know? 🥾Nearly 19% of these kids don’t usually do any sports. 🍃This project inspired them to get moving, with many participating in multiple activities throughout the week!
