We summarised the main transport-related insights of the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s #WEO2024 in this article: https://lnkd.in/gaM_kyDY Explore it now and learn how cities worldwide can align transport systems with a cleaner, greener future. 🌿🚴
Didn't have time to read the #IEA's World Economic Outlook (#WEO) 2024? 🤔 Here are some key takeaways related to transport: 🚲 E-Bikes Disrupting Transport: Over 65 million e-bikes were sold globally in 2023, with China accounting for 80% of sales. This modal shift in urban transport displaced an estimated 70,000 barrels of oil per day, reducing car use and offering a promising solution to lower oil dependency and emissions. 🚅 Electrification of Rail: By 2030, 75% of global rail activity is expected to be electrified, reducing emissions and promoting cleaner transport. This shift will play a crucial role in decarbonising the transport sector, as rail is one of the most energy-efficient modes of transport. 🚍 Electric Buses on the Rise: Electric buses are gaining traction globally, with a 16% share of new bus sales in the European Union during the first half of 2024. By 2030, the global bus fleet is projected to be over 10% electrified. 🚗 Electric Vehicles Gaining Ground: The global electric vehicle (EV) fleet is projected to exceed 15% of all cars by 2030, with EV sales set to make up 50% of all new car sales. This growth is driven by increased consumer demand and continued advancements in battery technology.
