Last week our Did you know?🧐 series concluded. However, absurd restrictions are still in place across the EU. Next time you use a #RideHailing service, you may understand why you need to 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝟭𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀, or why the next ride of your driver is 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 before picking up the next passenger. 🛑 𝖣𝖾𝗌𝗉𝗂𝗍𝖾 the European Commission Notice on well-functioning and sustainable local passenger transport-on-demand (taxis and PHV) from 2022, we still see a lot of room for improvement. 🔮 We look forward engaging with EU policy-makers to identify these inefficient, burdensome and discriminating practices and take action for the benefit of the consumers, drivers and cities. 🚀 POLIS Network EIT Urban Mobility Aurélien Pozzana George Xenokratis Sophie Bonnecarrère Thanos Moysiadis

In some EU Member States, Private-Hire Vehicles (PHV) drivers can operate and offer their service, but are not allowed to be parked in the street. Instead, these vehicles can only be parked in a specific garage that requires a commercial license. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄? 🧐 ℕ𝕠𝕥 𝕖𝕟𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙 𝕝𝕚𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕤𝕖𝕤 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕣𝕚𝕕𝕖-𝕙𝕒𝕚𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕕𝕣𝕚𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕤 #MobilityOnDemand is expected to cover the needs of 190 million people in Europe by the end of the decade. We welcome the study on “Costs and Benefits of the Urban Mobility Transition” by EIT Urban Mobility which finds that #RideHailing and on-demand mobility 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘀. Combining ride-hailing services with improved shared mobility and access restrictions is fundamental to reaching the Green Deal targets.🚕🌳

In the #RideHailing world, this is often the reality. 🫠 Certain outdated regulations oblige drivers to drive back to their garage before being able to pick up another passenger. Sure, sometimes passengers need that extra space or larger vehicle for their luggage. But in most cases, they don’t.
