Queensland Road Rule - drivers turning into a side road must give way to pedestrians, bicycle riders and people using personal mobility devices. With 50¢ fares starting on Monday, safer streets for pedestrians are vital, given that most bus, train and CityCat journeys begin and end with walking. “The next step in this announcement will be recognising how important it is to have well-connected, well-maintained and shaded footpaths and shelters, and safe crossings designed for people walking to public transport,” Campbell said. “We will need to invest heavily in making walking to public transport accessible and attractive for everyone, well ahead of the Games. https://lnkd.in/g5EBVnWE

Did you know about this road rule? Luckily my son has recently become a red 'P' plater which means I have been updated with the rule 'pedestrians first'. #transport #activetransport #infrastructure #planning #pedestrians #civilinfrastructure #civilengineering

I review our #PrivateHire & #taxi fleet periodically to look at vehicle mix, emissions profile and trends. Since August 22: 🚕 Fleet has grown 30% thanks to recent tariff increase and other post-pandemic recovery 👍 #ULEZ compliance up from 73% to 89% (we border four London boroughs) ⚡ #EV & #PHEV still <5% of fleet 🚖 The mighty #Prius still dominates the fleet, including 2004 models still #ULEZ compliant 🤔 Market gap is larger but affordable EV models (eg Stansted family trips with luggage) The pictured #Nissan ENV200 is used for some community transport type trips for #Loughton residents but since obtaining a refurbed battery (the old one repurposed for storage) the owner can now take families to #Stansted where the tailgate is great for heavy suitcases.

WHY CITY CYCLISTS ARE AT RISK While urban planners in some areas have made significant progress in adapting their cities’ infrastructure to be more bicycle-friendly, the reality is that in sprawling metro areas most roads are designed primarily for automobiles. Sidewalks, meanwhile, are typically reserved for pedestrians. In the absence of a dedicated bicycle lane, bicyclists are forced to share the same lanes of travel as passenger cars and semi-trucks, where the significant disparities in both size and speed make bicycles vulnerable to even a split second of driver inattention. A bike accident attorney with Shillen Mackall Seldon & Spicer may be able to help you understand whether driver negligence is likely to have contributed to your bicycle accident. The reality of pedestrian safety concerns in urban environments is valid in every large city across the US. Despite being a vigilant pedestrian, the author of this article has acknowledged the inherent dangers they face due to the lack of attention and care exhibited by drivers on the road. We can further teach pedestrian safety, but this education stretches to the responsibility of the driver as well. We all know the potential for distractions when driving, and minimizing this ensures the safety of the driver AND the pedestrian. #PedestrianSafety #UrbanSafety #RoadSafety #Seattle

The #cyclemobile comedy continues in NYC & USA: Instead of contracting #cyclemobile solutions providers at scale to provide goods & services, NYC & other municipalities (and states and the federal government) issue mandate after mandate while offering zero (or near zero) investments or contracts in the cyclemobile goods & services sector that's starved of capital if not greenwashing campaigns. Yes, unions are a factor - so let's bring them on board literally and figuratively; dealerships & manufacturers are eager to orient products to maximize effectiveness for users. It's high time for towns, cities, states, and the feds to issue cyclemobile-forward goods & services RFPs & contracts; as well, any laws that exist to keep governments from doing so are identified & swept aside in this process. One RFP exists now from NYSERDA for pedicab services in NYS in its Clean Mobility area due mid-August, which is heartening. Where's NYC in the #cyclemobile goods & services contract matrix? Still MIA.
Yesterday, Mayor Adams announced a series of e-bike safety initiatives to support the safe adoption of #ebikes and expand outdoor e-bike #charging infrastructure: ✔ NYC DOT is proposing a rule to expedite approvals for property owners to install electric micromobility device battery swapping and charging cabinets on public sidewalks, which is currently prohibited. ✔ NYC DOT’s new e-bike #tradein program will create a pipeline for food delivery workers to trade in (at no cost) their uncertified e-bikes/batteries and non-street legal mopeds for high-quality, certified e-bikes. ✔ FDNY will launch a public education campaign to further raise public awareness about the dangers of uncertified #ebike batteries. Later this week, the proposed rules for both DOT-led efforts will be published, opening their respective public comment periods. After months of work, I am excited to celebrate this milestone and get the public involved in the development of these exciting initiatives. More to come!

At some point in the day, everyone is a pedestrian. October is Road Safety Month and we wanted to take a moment to refresh our followers on key pedestrian safety tips 👇 Crossing the street (At pedestrian crossings)🚶♀️ - Cross only at marked pedestrian crosswalks or crossovers. - Cross only when the driver has fully stopped. - Hold your hand out in front of you indicating you are waiting to cross the road. - Make sure drivers see you before you cross. At a traffic light 🚦 - Cross when traffic has come to a complete stop. - Begin to cross at the start of the green light or “walk” signal, where it is present. - Don’t begin crossing if you see a flashing “do not walk” symbol or the light turns yellow. - Watch for traffic turning at intersections or turning into and leaving driveways. Railway crossings 🚋 - As you come to a railway crossing, listen and look both ways before crossing the tracks. - Never walk on the gravel roads or green space alongside railway crossings. - Keep your distance as trains are wider than the tracks. ♿Wheelchairs and scooters are designed for people who have limited mobility because of a medical condition or injury. They are considered as pedestrians under the Highway Traffic Act. Most municipalities have bylaws about where wheelchairs can and can't be used. #RoadSafetyMonth #PedestrianSafety #SafeCrossing #TrafficSafety #StreetSmart #WalkSafe #RoadAwareness #PedestrianTips
