🔝 Today, in parallel with the Sun&Blue Congress in Almería, we proudly hosted the 2nd Joint Annual Forum of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme Sustainable Tourism Mission. This year’s theme, "Climate Adaptation in Tourism: Building Capacity and Policy Integration," brought together experts, stakeholders, and regional leaders to tackle the pressing challenges of climate change in tourism. NECSTouR, in collaboration with the #Community4Tourism project partners, organized an engaging capacity-building workshop led by The Travel Foundation. Participants explored how to put climate action planning into practice, focusing on Almería as a case study. Through interactive group discussions, they: ✅ Identified and prioritized actions to decarbonize the tourism sector. ✅ Addressed specific challenges related to shifting weather patterns. ✅ Mapped key stakeholders and pinpointed potential barriers to implementation. In addition, #NECSTouRClimateTaskForce's Chair and Sustainable Manager at Toerisme Vlaanderen - VISITFLANDERS, Marjan Nauwelaert, joined a dynamic policy debate exploring: ✅ The varied impacts of #ClimateChange on different destinations. ✅ Priority actions required to build #resilience and adapt. ✅ The crucial role of collaborative initiatives in driving interregional alignment. Marjan Nauwelaert emphasized the importance of collective action, saying: 🗣️ "Climate action calls for unity—we are all allies in this mission and must collaborate by sharing solutions and resources. As Chair and a proud member of NECSTouR's Climate Task Force, I’ve had the privilege to witness the incredible efforts of other regions and learn directly from their experiences. This exchange of knowledge has been instrumental in shaping and advancing our climate initiatives at Toerisme Vlaanderen - VISITFLANDERS." 💪 The Forum exemplifies how #Collaboration, #CapacityBuilding, and #PolicyIntegration can drive meaningful climate action in tourism. Together, NECSTouR and the Interreg Euro-MED Programme Sustainable Tourism Mission partners are working toward a more resilient and sustainable tourism future. 🎉 Thank you to all the participants and partners for making this event a success. Let's continue working together to build a brighter future for tourism!

💻 Yesterday, NECSTouR hosted the impactful webinar "A guide on Tourism Climate Action Plans" on the "Blueprint for Tourism Climate Action Plans," published within the Thematic Community Project of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme Sustainable Tourism Mission. The webinar was led by Marjan Nauwelaert, NECSTouR's Climate Task Force Chair, with the aim of supporting members in seamlessly integrating #ClimateAction into their #TourismStrategies. 💪 The session began with Elisa van den Heuvel, from Breda University of Applied Sciences, who provided an in-depth walkthrough of the Blueprint, empowering participants to maximize its potential in their planning. She discussed the importance of tools for monitoring emissions, establishing baselines, and prioritising actions to make the process more tangible and measurable. 🔝 Mariona Salvatella, from the Agència Catalana de Turisme / Catalan Tourist Board and Vice-Chair of NECSTouR’s Climate Task Force, enriched the discussion by sharing Catalonia’s journey in crafting its #ClimateActionPlan. She detailed the stakeholders involved, the iterative process, and the annual review mechanisms that keep the plan aligned with evolving climate priorities. 🤝 The webinar fostered an interactive exchange on participants’ motivations for developing #ClimateActionPlans, the challenges they face, and strategies to overcome them, in addition to practical insights into using the Blueprint as a step-by-step guide and understanding the urgency of climate action in tourism. This collaborative environment encouraged knowledge-sharing across regions and different stages of climate planning. 🌍 A special thanks to our speakers and attendees for their invaluable contributions to this initiative and to NECSTouR’s Climate Hub, which continues to be a vital platform for advancing sustainable tourism. Together, we will continue to build a tourism sector that prioritizes the planet’s future.

Last night’s European Parliamentary hearing was inspiring, as the Commissioner-designate for Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, emphasized the EU's role as the world's top tourism destination. His commitment to a strategy for #SustainableTourism speaks directly to the heart of what we value at NECSTouR—ensuring tourism not only supports our vibrant industry but also preserves the well-being of our local communities and destinations. This commitment is a major step forward in maintaining Europe’s leading role while embracing sustainability as the key to our future success. With a clear focus on industry support and community resilience, Commissioner-designate Tzitzikostas's vision offers a promising path to shape the tourism sector for future generations. Looking forward to collaborating to make this vision a reality!
