#DenysPipelineWorks • Denys has completed the construction of a 70km long potable water transmission pipeline, for National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in Uganda. With pipe laying completed, pressure testing successful and flushing & disinfection executed, our team in Uganda managed to wrap up the project just before the end of last year. More than 350.000 people in the region between Karuma and Gulu now have access to drinking water, drawn from the River Nile at Karuma. Happy to share some good vibes about this project at the start of the year. #DenysDreamworks • 2024 is just flying by…and it's the perfect time of the year to be recollecting all the exciting projects we were involved in over the past year. We prefer to look forward but nonetheless here’s one of our highlights we love to look back on. In March this year, we contributed to the amazing Hardt Hyperloop project at the European Hyperloop Center. Based on our specialty experience in pipelines and tunnelling, we successfully installed a 420m long hyperloop test tube. Since completing the installation Denys remains involved as a sponsor and happy with a front row seat to witness this innovation. September 9th marked the first public test of a hyperloop vehicle and testing hasn’t stopped ever since.   The European Hyperloop Center is an open test facility consisting of 34 connected hyperloop tubes and a tube diameter of 2.5 meters. A unique aspect is the lane-switch, an essential part of the hyperloop for the realization of hyperloop networks. The hyperloop pipes are made from steel developed and produced by POSCO (KR) in collaboration with Tata Steel Nederland, have been assembled into fully pre-fabricated hyperloop tubes by contractor Mercon (NL), and have been installed by Denys, all partners in the Hyperloop Development Program. #DenysResRen •  🎉 The spire is back on Horst Castle! After more than four years, this iconic tower has been restored to its full glory, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Herita and Denys. Over the past months, our team meticulously reassembled the 500-year-old spire, preserving around 25% of the original wood while crafting new beams to complete the structure. Piece by piece, these timber elements were assembled in the castle courtyard before being hoisted into place. Today, the restoration reached a proud milestone as Flemish Minister for Architectural Heritage Ben Weyts added the finishing touch: placing the wind vane atop the tower. A symbolic moment for all involved! ✨ A special touch: Inside the wrought-iron sphere at the top, we’ve included a message for future generations—a time capsule to inspire restorers who will one day continue this legacy. 🔨 What’s next? The restoration of Horst Castle continues up into 2027. Upcoming projects include refurbishing the round tower, restoring historic interior paintings and stucco ceilings by J.C. #DenysTunnelling • Celebration of Santa Barbara in Madrid ✝️ 💐   On Wednesday 4th of December, the teams of Denys, EUROHINCA, ASCH INFRAESTRUCTURAS Y SERVICIOS S.A. and Marco Obra Pública, S.A. traditionally celebrated Santa Barbara in Madrid. Santa Barbara is the patron saint of miners, tunnellers, and other underground workers. There was extra reason to celebrate, with the 1000th ring built in the same week. This means the tunnel has reached over 1250 meter of the total 4500 meter tunnel length. The project of Colector-Interceptor de Pozuelo de Alarcón will intercept 4 streams in the Madrid suburb of Pozuelo the Alarcón, in order to prevent flooding. #DenysSmartBuildings •  We’re happy to announce the contract close for an exciting DBFM project, entailing the build of 3 new schools and 1 childcare center! Denys and Alheembouw NV join forces under consortium Metis I to design, build, finance and maintain brand new infrastructure in Maldegem, Poperinge and Wingene. 🏨 The new buildings will house up to 3500 primary and secondary school children. The project is designed by Abscis Architecten and VK architects+engineers, part of Sweco and will embrace sustainability and circularity. 💚 All together we’ll be building approximately 19,500 m² and landscaping an outdoor area of about 21,000 m². The construction cost is approximately €61 million. Whilst Denys focusses on the school in Maldegem, Alheembouw NV will manage the schools and child care center in Poperinge and Wingene. From start of construction to finish, each location should take about 2 years to complete and will be followed up by 30 years maintenance. 🔧 Our finance teams have reached financial close for the pilot project in Poperinge and work is already on its way! Once permits are final, we’ll get things moving in Maldegem and Wingene as well. 🏗️ Thank you to Bertinus Collectief Poperinge, Maricolen Maldegem and Centrumschool Wingene for their trust, and to AGION (Agentschap voor Infrastructuur in het Onderwijs) for their skillful coordination of this complex project set-up. #DoDreamers • Yesterday we welcomed 40 civil engineering students of KU Leuven at the castle of Horst 🏰. This exclusive visit was part of their 'Renovation of Structures' course. Denys is currently restoring this magnificent 13th century moated castle, home of the fictive Red Knight and up until recently, a pleasant guesthouse. The project team is responsible for the restoration of the facades, roof and interior, as well as foundation reinforcement works. After the restoration, the castle will serve as a multifunctional cultural, events, educational and commercial location. #DenysSmartBuildings • We are proud to announce that Denys and BESIX have been trusted to build Holcim Belgium’s state-of-the-art decarbonized cement production facility in Obourg. Work is on its way! It may not look like much yet now, but together we will be building more than 70 different structures in less than 15 months. This includes a 60 m-high silo building, carried out using sliding formwork and integrating an inverted concrete cone. Amongst others we’ll also be developing a 25 m-high concrete shell structure to support a steel structure pre-heating tower of more than 130m high, a storage area of more than 200 m long and a train unloading station. All of this is part of Holcim’s #GO4ZERO project, which aims to achieve close to 2.3 million tonnes of carbon neutral cement per year by 2029. Key to the Obourg site is an innovative air-oxyfuel switchable kiln, capable of capturing and purifying CO2. Remaining CO2 will be transported to North Sea sequestration wells. Furthermore at least 95% of the facility’s energy will be sourced from alternative fuels, while over 30% of its raw mix will come from partly decarbonized alternative raw materials. Playing a part in Holcim Belgium’s GO4ZERO program follows our company’s vision on sustainability.
