About us
SciMingo is a Brussels based non-profit organization involved in science communication. SciMingo aims to support scientists to help them communicate to the public to the maximum extent possible. We want to make research and its importance clearer to the general public; to help make the results of research and scientific insights more accessible, thus helping to strengthen interest in and support for science in society. In concrete terms, SciMingo wants to build a bridge between science, the press and the public by: • Stimulating and training researchers: SciMingo aims to sensitize and stimulate scientists to share their research with the public and to teach them how to communicate about science. • Promoting and popularizing science: SciMingo aims to promote and popularize science by bringing the research of young researchers at knowledge institutions to a wider audience. • Connecting science, press, and public: SciMingo wants to promote exchange between the press, scientists, and the public In this way, we want to contribute to a new generation of young researchers who are aware of the importance of science communication and who invest in it from the start of their careers. In this way, we hope to help install a real culture of science communication in the academic world in due course. The ultimate goal is to maximise the transfer of scientific research to society and to strengthen public support for science.

Last week, SciMingo was invited to organize an inspirational session on social media for science (communication) at the imec #PhDDay! 📱 With practical tips and tricks for various social media platforms, we aimed to help PhD researchers at imec enhance their use of social media to share their research online. I also had the pleasure of being part of the jury for the pitch competition. With 12 strong presentations, it was tough to pick winners, but a huge congratulations to Kamal Brahim and Iryna Kandybka for taking first and second place🥇🥈! Both of them had attended our 'Presenting on Stage' training by Ben Verhoeven -ERLNMYR at SciMingo. Safe to say, practice pays off! 👏 Also a big shoutout to Michelle Wijshoff, who won the best poster award! Her participation in our SciMingo 'poster design' workshop with Toon Verlinden-The Floor is Yours certainly showed results! 🙌 Congrats to the entire PhD praesidium team (Thomas Hellemans, Pauline Coquart, Shankha Mukherjee and colleagues) for putting together such a great event! It’s so nice to see real effort going into building a community for PhD students, with attention to career paths, mental wellbeing, science communication and some fun along the way!
