Human Rights Day: FIHRRST Launches 2023 Sustainability Report Study
On December 10, 2024, FIHRRST, in collaboration with Moores Rowland Indonesia (MRI), the Embassy of Belgium, and KOMNAS HAM RI, unveiled its fifth annual study analyzing the 2023 Sustainability Reports of IDX-listed companies. Held at Hotel Ashley Wahid Hasyim, Jakarta, the event emphasized the pivotal role of human rights in business practices.
The opening featured insights from Mr. Marzuki Darusman, FIHRRST founder, who stressed integrating human rights into corporate strategies. Keynote speakers included H.E. Frank Felix, Belgium’s Ambassador to Indonesia, and Ms. Risa Rustam, IDX Director of Finance and HR, who highlighted sustainability reporting as a cornerstone of Indonesia’s capital market development.
This year’s study aligns with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and underscores the connection between human rights and sustainability. Panels explored critical topics, such as:
1. Human Rights in Sustainability Reporting: Discussed about HRDD from Mr.Tauvik MUHAMAD from International Labour Organization and Ms. Tatat from Oxfam in Indonesia, and how it has been implemented in Indonesia through the lens of Ms.Harniati from Directorate General of Law and Human Rights.
2. EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD): Strategies for Indonesian companies to align with global standards and enhance practices by Mr. Antoine Ripoll the Delegation of the European Union to ASEAN and Mr Richard Gardiner fromStrategic Public Policy Lead, World Benchmarking Alliance
3. ESG & Environmental Standards: Panels addressed evolving regulations like the European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the need for transparency in environmental impacts by Mr. Andi from Satya Bumi and Mr. Imam A. El Marzuq from Rainforest Alliance
4. Best Practices in Sustainability Reporting: Showcasing corporate excellence in integrating human rights into operations. This session, led by Mr.Dendi Trisnadi, featured notable panelists including Mr. Mahmud Samuri, Ms. Luluk Andriyani from APP Group, Mr. Inra Gunawan from APRIL, Mr. Hermansyah Y Nasroen from PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional, and Mr. Alexander Lieman from Harita Nickel
The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring companies for outstanding sustainability reports, with 19 receiving A+ scores. FIHRRST Operations Director, Mr. Ali Rahmadi, expressed optimism about Indonesia's progress in advancing human rights and corporate transparency.
This study reinforces the importance of embedding sustainability and human rights into corporate frameworks, driving impactful change for communities and the environment.
