🇪🇺 📗 The European Commission today unveiled the Clean Industrial Deal, which is a welcome pathway to balancing sustainability and competitiveness, at a time when the European economy requires boosting. ⚙️🌐 Unlocking and unleashing the potential of the European #rail supply industry – a world leader facing an increasingly unfair competition landscape – is paramount. By reducing burdens and ensuring pathways to sustainable investment, Europe can entrench the European rail supply industry as a strategic asset. 🏗️ While there are many elements in this package which will support energy-intensive industries, its implementation must acknowledge the rail supply industry as a strategic sector in upcoming #publicprocurement initiatives, and provide it with simpler and broader access to #funding. #Competitiveness should be approached in a coherent way, and clean downstream industries such as rail supply, need to remain world leaders. 🆙 The European rail supply industry is responsible for approx. 650,000 jobs, and according to the World Rail Market Study 2024, the global rail market is worth €201.8bn. It is forecast to increase at the end of the decade to €240.8bn – growth of 3% per year. 💼 However, this forecast growth must also be safeguarded through appropriate legislative measures. We remain ready to work with the Commission on its plan to drive growth across the European economy.

🛤️ This March, the Commission unveiled its highly anticipated 'Roadmap for Women's Rights', in which the Commission's President underscored the Commission's commitment to addressing 'structural discriminatory behaviours in our societies'. The Roadmap aims to achieve key objectives, including: 🔹Achieving equal pay and economic empowerment by addressing the gender pay gap and pension gap, promoting financial literacy among women and girls, and tackling the undervaluation of women's work 🔹Promoting work-life balance and care by encouraging equal sharing of care responsibilities between women and men and by promoting investments in the long-term care sector to ensure quality care jobs 🔹Ensuring equal employment opportunities and adequate working conditions This includes the eradication of the gender employment gap, the elimination of sexual harassment in the world of work, and the assurance of quality jobs and equal career prospects. 🔹 Qualitative and inclusive education by promoting a gender-balanced perspective at all levels of education, encouraging girls and women to engage in the STEM sectors and encouraging boys and men to engage in the education, health and welfare sectors The Commission calls upon core European institutions, Member States, stakeholders and other organisations to collaborate and create initiatives within their respective areas to embrace this EU-wide commitment to women's rights. The European Rail Suppliers industry will continue to raise awareness of these critical issues and encourage its stakeholders and members to align with the Roadmap's objectives. We are committed to advocating for women and their potential and right to contribute to the Rail Supply industry in any way they choose. 🚆This 8th of March, we continue to pledge for more Women in Rail. #INWED25 #GenderEquality #WomenInRail #WomenInRail #EqualWorkforEqualOpportunities #DiversityAndInclusion #WomensRights #RoadmapforWomensRights

UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association : settore ferroviario sostiene piano per competenze UE.

Yesterday (and again today!), UNIFE attended the European Employment & Social Rights Forum, where the European Commission launched it's Union of Skills Package. It is a much needed step in the right direction to reducing skills shortages, however more will be required to ensure the European Rail Supply Industry can attract, train and support women and young people going forward. Vital reforms such as developing targets for women studying #STEM and delivering a Skills Guarantee pilot are welcome, however we call on the Commission to implement STAFFER's Final Report from October 2024. Our industry - and the broader rail sector - needs to foster a new pool of talent, which is ready to drive Europe’s digital mobility transition. Growth, prosperity and greater #productivity is not possible without targeting more of the public, and diversifying the industry. #WomeninSTEM #Skills #EURail #EUSocialForum

Where Do We Stand on the Gender Pay Gap? One of the main factors for gender inequality today is the gender pay gap. In the EU, women are paid an average of 13% less per hour than their male counterparts. Even in 2023, the European Council adopted new rules to increase Pay Transparency to detect and tackle unjustified pay gaps between women and men doing the same job. 📊 How big is the gap in some job positions? The pay gap for technicians and associate professionals (in all sectors) is 21%, for professionals 29%, and for managers 45%. 💡 Key Factors making the gap wider: Career interruptions ‣ women take 91% of career breaks due to childcare Part-time work ‣ 75% of all part-time workers are women, in some cases also due to childcare, Gender imbalances in leadership positions ‣ men still hold 65% of all leadership positions Job segregation and stereotypical “female-oriented jobs” ‣ 73% of the workforce in all education, health, and social work roles are women because society tends to direct them towards these professions more than others. These roles are also regarded as lower-paid, thereby exacerbating gender income inequality. 💡 What can we achieve with more pay transparency: 🔹 More awareness about income inequality and gender-based discriminatory pay 🔹 Employees and future applicants will better understand paying systems and job grading 🔹 Closing the gender pay gap for good At UNIFE, we recognise the gender disparities in the rail sector and have committed to addressing these issues within our organisation. In our gender equity policy, we pledge to ensure equal compensation for our staff and have successfully narrowed the gender pay gap internally. Our association will continue to evaluate its salary model to address any potential causes of unfair compensation. Our association understands the demands created by childcare and the resulting disparities for working parents, which overwhelmingly affect women. UNIFE will continue to raise awareness and advocate for equitable policies and inclusive recruitment within the rail sector to eliminate these gaps for good. 📢 Together with 20 other industry associations, we are urging the EU to reconsider Appendix C of the EU Taxonomy framework, which outlines the 'Generic criteria for Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) in pollution prevention and control regarding the use and presence of chemicals'. 💚 This appendix presents a major usability challenge, preventing companies developing critical green transition technologies from aligning their reporting with the #EUTaxonomy. ❌🌍 If not addressed, European companies could face a competitive disadvantage — unable to access #greenfinancing, while still bearing the heavy costs of complying with the EU Taxonomy’s reporting requirements 📊. 👇 Check out the joint letter below. 📢 Alongside 20 other industry associations, we are calling for the EU to urgently re-think Appendix C (“Generic criteria for do no significant harm (DNSH) to pollution prevention and control regarding use and presence of chemicals”) of the EU Taxonomy framework. This appendix creates a significant usability issue that is preventing the makers of technologies needed for the green transition from aligning their reporting with EU Taxonomy. If left unchanged, European-based companies 🇪🇺🏭 will be at a competitive disadvantage ❌💰 as they will not be able to access green financing 💶🌿 while still being subject to the significant cost of reporting 📊 within the requirements of EU taxonomy. 👉 Read our joint letter for more details: https://lnkd.in/dRe53nKG
