🔋 A breakthrough in battery technology is on the horizon! Imagine batteries that are high-energy, durable, safe, sustainable, affordable, and charge as fast as lightning! Too good to be true? Not for HyLiST! We’re thrilled to announce that the HyLiST consortium has secured an EU grant to develop the next generation of Solid-State Batteries (SSBs). These advanced batteries will not only revolutionize energy storage but also help Europe reduce its supply chain dependency on Asia. 🌍 At Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Prof. Maarten Messagie, director of the research group EVERGi, will lead the project for VUB. His team will conduct: 🌱 A Life Cycle Assessment to enhance the sustainability of SSBs. 🤝 A Social Assessment addressing human rights, labour rights, and industrial relations—pioneering a comprehensive approach in line with battery regulations. 🎯 The ultimate goal? To pave the way for commercializing cobalt-free cathode-based SSB cells, created with eco-friendly processes. These batteries will power automotive and aeronautic applications, shaping the future of mobility and technology. The HyLiST consortium is a powerhouse of 14 leading partners across 9 EU member states, including: 📍 AIT Austrian Institute of Technology 📍 CIDETEC 📍 SOVEMA GROUP - Member of the Schuler Group 📍 Uppsala University 📍 Tampere University 📍 Piaggio Aerospace 📍 F6S 📍 FEV Europe GmbH Together, they’re bridging expertise across disciplines to guide these game-changing technologies from lab to market. 🚀 📢 Want to know more about HyList? https://lnkd.in/eKvEippG ERIS team: Philippe Westbroek, Mohammad Boroun, Cristina García Timermans, Alessandra Rossetti, Marie Pfeiffer, Maxime Smits #Sustainability #Innovation #SolidStateBatteries #GreenEnergy #EUProjects #MOBI #VUB #BatteryTech #WeAreVUB

👏 We’re happy to announce that Prof. Luc Leyns, from the Department biology VUB, and Prof. Marc Elskens from the VUB Department of Chemistry (DSCH) have received an EU grant for the TriFluorium consortium! ♻️ TriFluorium focuses on developing innovative ways to recycle and repurpose organo-fluoride waste, including PFAS and fluoropolymers, materials known for their durability but also their environmental challenges. The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is taking the lead on the safety and sustainability assessment. The goal is to show that tribolysis (a groundbreaking recycling process) can safely break down materials like PTFE (commonly found in non-stick coatings) into harmless, reusable by-products, paving the way for a cleaner, circular economy.
