AI Agent vs Agentic Workflow, what's the difference? Let me break it down for you... Though both of them sound very similar, What are the core differences between AI Agents and Agentic Workflow? In a few words, AI agents are autonomous systems that perform tasks with minimal human intervention. At the same time, agentic workflow is the coordinated process where multiple agents work together to achieve a goal in a defined context. But that's not all, Let's see what the other differences between them are: 1️⃣ Main Focus: AI Agents - Act independently or in collaboration to achieve goals. Agentic Workflows - A structured processes that allow LLMs to execute a series of steps or use multiple agents to tackle complex tasks. 2️⃣ Reasoning & Prompting: AI Agents - Rely on the model's pre-trained or inherent abilities. Agentic Workflows - Leverage advanced techniques like Chain-of-Thought, self-reflection, and contextual reasoning. 3️⃣ Memory: AI Agents - Utilize episodic or persistent memory to store past interactions and improve future responses. Agentic Workflows - Rely on structured data passing (e.g., step-by-step updates) 4️⃣ Scalability & Adaptability: AI Agents - Can be scaled by deploying multiple agents, but their capabilities are limited to their individual design. Agentic Workflows - Offer better scalability, as agents can handle larger tasks by breaking them down and working collaboratively in a distributed system. 5️⃣ Task Handling: AI Agents - Executes Tasks as its main priority and are very task-focused Agentic Workflow - Workflow-focused and breaks down complex tasks into manageable logical steps. 6️⃣ Communication: AI Agents - Can communicate using agentic protocols, but interaction is typically limited to single-agent contexts. Agentic Workflows - Allow communication across multiple agents or systems, often using APIs, shared memory models, or other integration protocols. 7️⃣ Collaboration: AI Agents - Collaboration is optional for individual agents, as they can function autonomously. Agentic Workflows - Collaboration is essential—agents share tasks and work together to achieve a common goal. 8️⃣ Optimization & Efficiency: AI Agents - Focus on individual improvement, often improving their responses or performance. We’ve reached the conclusion of the CAATS project, where we explored the challenges of context- and physics-aware AI models 🤖 for anomaly detection in machine drivetrains.
