Engaging people in free knowledge

About us

Wikimedia Belgium is the Belgian Wikimedia chapter founded on 8 October 2014, supporting the vision, mission and values set by the Wikimedia Foundation. Our organisation exists to help collect, develop and distribute freely licensed knowledge and to support the worldwide movement we are part of. We do this by bringing the Wikimedia community in this region together, and by building links with Belgium-based cultural institutions, universities, charities and other bodies. We also represent Wikimedians who live in and around Belgium and Luxembourg. Since we are a multi-language country, we seek collaboration with Nederland, Germany and France. Wikimedia Belgium is a not for profit association with the aim to create an environment for volunteers and organizations to collaborate and work on our common goals. We facilitate volunteers to work on projects for the improvement of free information, like for the benefit of Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikiversity, Wikispecies, and Wikimedia Commons. The Wikimedia Foundation and the national organizations, such as Wikimedia Belgium, organize meetings, seminars and teaching materials. We work with volunteers and our activities are supported entirely by voluntary donations. Please note that we are a separate organization from the Wikimedia Foundation, and have no control over Wikipedia or any other Wikimedia Foundation projects.
