🌍Adoption of WIPO Design Law Treaty sets new global benchmark for design protection! An important milestone has been reached for the global creative economy with the adoption of the WIPO Design Law Treaty (DLT) — the second treaty from WIPO this year. This achievement is a strong reminder of the power of multilateralism in intellectual property law. For the EU, a region renowned for its design-intensive industries, this new treaty creates a welcome global standard for design protection, benefitting individual creators and SMEs. It aligns perfectly with our recent efforts to modernise our own design framework. The DLT is set to: ✅ Simplify and modernise international design protection ✅ Reduce costs and complexity for designers ✅ Increase speed, predictability, and legal certainty While the EU continues to prioritise the protection of its design economy, this treaty signals a shared global commitment to supporting designers and promoting innovation. 🌟 EU at Slush Helsinki 2024! 🌟 From 20 to 21 November, the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs of the European Commission joined Slush, the global hub for startups, linking European tech innovators with top investors. At the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) & European Investment Bank (EIB) stand, we hosted two key workshops. 🔹 Workshop 1: Empowering Startups Showcasing the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and #InvestEU, this session featured EEN-backed startups, Matr Foods and D-CRBN, and shared how Europe’s largest SME support network fosters growth, international reach, and green transformation. 🔹 Workshop 2: Gender Equality in Investment We introduced the new European Network of Gender-Conscious Investors, which supports women investors and entrepreneurs with peer learning, networking, and matchmaking. The spotlight also shined on skills-building initiatives like ESTEAM Festivals—encouraging more women and girls to thrive in tech and business. Together, these workshops demonstrate the EU’s commitment to supporting startups with resources, partnerships, and a strong focus on gender equality in investment.

✨ 💻 This week, teams from EU Member States are attending the fifth #OnceOnly Technical System Projectathon! A marathon of testing helping to implement ‘Once-Only’ and so drive forward the creation of Europe’s Single Digital Gateway! The Single Digital Gateway is an ambitious EU eGovernment initiative to digitalise public administration. You can access this Single Digital Gateway through the Your Europe portal. This means a one-stop-shop for citizens and companies who want to work, study or do business in another EU country. The Once-Only Technical System underpins the Single Digital Gateway because it automates the exchange of official documents between public authorities; eliminating the need for manual uploads, making the administrative procedures easier, faster, and more cost-effective.
