Congratulations to US Ambassador to the EU Mark Gitenstein and to Bjoern Seibert, Head of Cabinet of Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who received the 2024 American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) EU Transatlantic Business Award yesterday. Nikolaas Baeckelmans, VP, EU Affairs at ExxonMobil Europe and AmCham EU Vice Chair, helped present the award, recognizing their work to build a culture of dialogue and trust on both sides of the Atlantic. Just how vital is the transatlantic relationship❓ 🔹 More than 16 million jobs. 🔹 One-third of global GDP (in purchasing power). 🔹 Over €6 trillion in total commercial sales annually. The EU and US remain each other’s most important markets for goods and services, and investments are the real backbone of this relationship. No place in the world has attracted as much American FDI as the EU in the last decade. For Europe to continue to attract investments, especially for the energy transition, policymakers must show investors they are serious about reducing regulatory burden and making it easier to do business.
About us
We are committed to doing our part in helping society meet the dual challenge of meeting the world’s growing demand for energy while reducing environmental impacts and the risks of climate change. As an important supplier of oil and gas, a major refiner of crude oil for fuels and lubricants, and one of Europe's leading petrochemical companies, employing over 14,000 people across Europe, we have been helping to meet energy demand in Europe for over a century through our main commercial brands: Esso, Mobil and Mobil1. We are committed to addressing the key challenge of energy development in Europe — developing affordable and secure supplies of energy in a safe and environmental responsible manner while maintaining EU competitiveness. Our products are marketed through a network of service stations, and also to commercial segments, such as aviation, industrial and wholesale, equipment manufacturers, and marine.

Europe’s competitiveness is at risk. That is not an exaggeration. Earlier this year, the #DraghiReport outlined just how critical the situation has become for businesses in the EU. As EU leaders meet this week in Brussels, they must keep these challenges front of mind. High energy and labor costs, low productivity, and red tape are driving away investments. Meanwhile, the gap with other regions such as China and the US is widening. But the Draghi Report can also act as a roadmap. According to the latest European Round Table for Industry - ERT survey, 86% of its CEOs and Chairs believe that, if his recommendations are implemented, they would improve conditions and help them invest in the EU. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently announced then introduction of a competitiveness Compass, based on the #DraghiReport, which could help turn thought into action. Shooting for the stars 🏀 Belgian basketball legend Ann Wauters recently visited us at our home court in Brussels. For our last Lunch & Learn of the year, she delivered a seminar on #teamwork and “the next play mentality.” A clutch performance to close out the 2024 season. We were locked in from tip-off to the final buzzer, learning how to pass ideas, assist each other, box out negativity, rebound from setbacks, and drive toward success. 🏆 A huge thank you to Ann Wauters for coaching us to victory and to our MVPs, Renate Catthoor and Anouk Dirix, for the organization!
