About us
"Why make it yourself if a bug can make it for you" At InBio.be, a diverse team of researchers strives to transform microbial strains into cell factories, as such enabling the transition towards a biobased economy. Tool-, strain- and process development are combined for the production of biosurfactants, iminosugars and carbon neutral chemicals. We have been active in the field of biotechnology for over 15 years, amongst others resulting in the founding of the spin off companies Inbiose and AmphiStar. Moreover, InBio.be's close collaboration with the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant in several research projects, enables to bring cutting edge technologies to the next level, through process development and scale up.

🌟 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗸 𝗼𝗽 𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽! #DagVanDeWetenschap #Wetenschapscommunicatie #Microorganismen #Biotechnologie #OnderzoekInActie

I recently wrote an article for Eos Wetenschap about Clostridium botulinum, the bacterium behind the world's deadliest toxin - botulinum ☠️ . But did you know that its toxin is also used for medical treatments and cosmetic wrinkle removal (botox 💉 )? Many thanks to Young Belgian Society for Microbiology (YBSM) for making this possible! ➡️ Read it here (Dutch):

🪐 Day 2 and 3 at the Brno Planetarium were graced with the last of our group’s poster presentations, brought by our PhD student Wim Hectors! Focused on rational metabolic engineering to sustainably produce biofuels and biopolymers, his research is a perfect fit in the search for a carbon negative future! 🦠💨 🧩 As the conference has drawn to a close, we can’t be more confident that enthusiasm for science and sustainability will remain as contagious as our colleagues smiles! #Sustainability #MetabolicEngineering #biofuels #biopolymers
Last week I had the opportunity to present a scientific poster about my research on sustainable #biofuel and #biopolymer production by rational metabolic engineering of Cupriavidus necator! I did this at the #ASBE7 conference in the cosy city of Brno 🇨🇿 I’d like to thank the organizers for putting together a great event, held at a stellar location - the Brno Observatory and Planetarium, an amazing venue which even allowed to gaze at the planets through their telescopes 🪐 All in all a successful and enjoyable first international conference. I’m grateful for all the meaningful connections I’ve made and discussions I’ve had on genetic engineering and related topics!

✨ Days 1 and 2 at #ASBE7 brought another highlight worth sharing! One of our bright PhD students, Goedele L., presented a poster on her “origin-al” research on cross-species evaluation of mitochondrial sequences with ori activity for plasmid maintenance in ascomycetous yeasts. 🧬🧪 Her work is paving the way for more effective genetic tools and deeper insights into yeast biotechnology—a big step forward for the field! 🙌 #SyntheticBiology #Biotechnology #yeast

💡 InBio.be at the 7th Applied Synthetic Biology in Europe Conference 💡 The 7th Applied Synthetic Biology in Europe Conference #ASBE7 kicked off on Wednesday, November 6th, in the charming city of Brno, Czech Republic. Biotechnology experts from over 30 countries gathered for intense discussions, inspiring presentations, and educational scientific posters. 🧬 On Day 1, our very own Maarten De Mol presented his work on genome mining and the development of microbial cell factories for natural product biosynthesis, elucidating the workflow from dry lab to wet lab and showcasing his extensive research experience! Of course, no great conference is complete without excellent networking after-events, fostering new collaborations and sharing ideas. #SyntheticBiology #Networking #Biotechnology
