Counting the hours to the start of the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition. For Monbat it is special, because the equipment for battery energy storage systems (BESS) is loaded on the board of the research vessel “Sv. sv. Kiril i Metodiy”. The new BESS will secure uninterrupted power supply to the new laboratory block on Livingston Island. Monbat's lead-acid industrial batteries will once again be the "backbone" of the power supply system. We thank the entire team of the Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition (BAI), the chairman of BAI Prof. Hristo Pimpirev and the commander of the Bulgarian polar base "St. Kliment Ohridski" Kiril Nedkov. As already announced, Monbat Group is part of the MESCH project - a pilot innovative project for the design, construction, commissioning and testing of the commercial potential of hybrid systems for energy storage and production of hydrogen as a fuel. Our Malawian colleagues from Renew'N'Able Malawi and INFLO LTD have prepared a short film that gives an insight into the real seriousness of the problem that we are trying to solve with the project. Proud to announce that Monbat Group is part of MESCH - a consortium project aimed at the development of next-generation energy storage systems, funded by the United Kingdom’s National Innovation Agency (Innovate UK). The pilot will be deployed in Malawi. Modular Energy Storage with Clean Hydrogen (MESCH) won the tender procedure at the end of 2023 and, in addition to the development and tests of the system, should also check the economic feasibility of a potential serial production for mass application in Africa. It is well known that the underdeveloped electricity grid in Africa forces many populations to use mainly solid fuel for cooking polluting the air and destroying valuable forest resources. The very system combines solar panels, battery energy storage system (BESS) and hydrogen generation system (electrolyzer). The purpose of the generated hydrogen is to be utilized as sustainable, effective and reliable fuel for cooking in the District hospital in Mwanza, Malawi.
