Why Does Building the Skin Barrier Matter for Stoma Care? This week, someone asked about the cream we make. They heard Terrence mention that it can soothe skin distress around stoma sites. In this video, Terrence shares his personal journey battling severe contact dermatitis, which started around his stoma and spread across his abdomen. His condition worsened when he developed allergies to the plastics in his medical appliances and tape, leaving him with no choice but to focus on rebuilding and maintaining his skin barrier. His two-plus year battle was managed when we started developing and testing our Laminaria digitata extract on his skin. From there, he tested our Seaweed Skin Care Lotion, and now manages his skin barrier with our spray. His inflamed, weeping skin transformed as the barrier repaired itself, and today, he continues to manage it using the same extracts in our products. We’re constantly learning more about the unique properties of brown macroalgae, particularly Fucoidan, and its role in strengthening the skin barrier. These questions aren’t always easy to ask, and we truly appreciate the opportunity to share Terrence's story. We hope this video helps.
