Inspired by Acromegaly Awareness Day and want to help acromegaly patients get diagnosed sooner? Read on for an opportunity to participate in a study led by St. Michael’s Unity Health Toronto. ⤵️ We know that earlier diagnosis usually improves outcomes and quality of life. Please take part in our international research study that uses computer technology to try to diagnose patients sooner by detecting the earliest features of acromegaly. We are looking for individuals who currently have or previously had acromegaly (including gigantism) or other types of pituitary adenomas/tumours to participate. Your participation in this study is critical to help develop the most accurate tools for diagnosis and greatly improve the quality of life of future patients. In this study, you will be asked to upload your photographs and complete a questionnaire, for use in a machine learning analysis. You can access the study using the link provided below. If you have questions about taking part in this study, you can send an email to the research team at acromegaly-research@smh.ca or telephone at 001-416-864-5312. Thank you for considering participation in this project. "You don't look like you have acromegaly!" A common hurdle in an #acromegaly diagnosis is outdated or inaccurate assumptions of how acromegaly presents. Often, images are of people who have suffered for years or even decades without being treated. In reality, people with acromegaly may have only very slight changes to their appearance, especially if caught early. And an early diagnosis leads to a much better quality of life! Huge thanks to Beverley Norman for this graphic. #AcromegalyAwarenessDay #AcromegalyAwareness #PituitaryDisease #RareDisease

Acromegaly can cause a wide range of symptoms, some that can be chalked up to other conditions or simply to aging. Others are slow to progress, making them tricky to spot early. These factors plus the perceived rarity of the condition can lead to lengthy diagnostic journeys. Increased awareness will help reduce the current delay in diagnosis. If you or someone you know is experiencing several of these symptoms, speak with your doctor and ask about an IGF-1 test. #AcromegalyAwarenessDay #Acromegaly #Pituitary #RareDisease

Today, November 1, is Acromegaly Awareness Day. Acromegaly is caused by excess production of growth hormone in adults, usually due to a tumour on the pituitary gland. There are many signs and symptoms, but they are often attributed to other conditions. This means it can take years to get diagnosed, leading to the disease worsening--along with quality of life. Join us today in sharing resources to raise awareness + reduce the time to get treated. #AcromegalyAwarenessDay #Acromegaly #Pituitary #RareDisease
