The Artemis Canada team had a wonderful week at the SAAS NORTH Conference in Ottawa this past week. We joined 2000+ attendees for inspiring conversations, learned about many of the 800+ companies represented, and were inspired, educated and entertained by 100+ speakers. Our Kristina McDougall joined Michelle Brooks & April Hicke for an insightful and somewhat spicy panel conversation about how to hire for your scaling tech business - TLDR - Open co-founder communication (and therapy) is critical for smooth scaling - Understand where you're going, what success looks like and how you'll measure it along the way BEFORE you decide who should do the job - If you have the wrong person on the team, fail fast (not new - still true) - but also with kindness, as your team is watching - Beware the lure of pedigree - what it takes to success in a giant company is likely not what you really need - What roles in your business, if you had a top 2% performer, would change your trajectory. Invest there in someone who is a sure thing. We leave the week with stronger partnerships, new friends, valuable SaaS leadership tools and learnings - and an incredible optimism about the future of SaaS in Canada! Huge thanks to the organizing team - and a special shout out to Erin Mussolum, Rosanna Tan & team for being the hosts with the mosts! #SaasNorth #ArtemisCanada #saas #LFG

Dare we say it...competing job offers are back! It's been a minute (since 2021?) but we are noticing a rise in competing offers over here. The pendulum may be swinging back towards a candidate market after a tough few years of extensive layoffs in tech. What does that mean for both candidates and companies? FOR CANDIDATES: Increased Leverage: Candidates with competing offers can negotiate better compensation, benefits, or work flexibility. It's a good time to reassess your market worth and consider all facets of an offer. We have Salary Snapshots for that: https://lnkd.in/gVzzUdYY! Focused Prioritization: With more options, candidates should identify what matters most—whether it's career growth, culture, or work-life balance—to make an informed decision that aligns with their values. Risk of Rushed Decisions: A quick influx of offers can create pressure to decide swiftly, which might lead to overlooking critical aspects like long-term fit or role clarity. FOR COMPANIES: Higher Competition for Top Talent: Companies must differentiate themselves more effectively. Strong employer branding, competitive salaries, and unique perks become essential to attract and retain talent. Need for Agile Processes: Lengthy interview and offer processes can lead to losing candidates to faster-moving competitors. Streamlining hiring workflows can make a significant difference. Enhanced Retention Efforts: With the risk of employees receiving external offers, retention strategies—such as clear career paths, ongoing development, and workplace engagement—are increasingly important. (Avoid that counteroffer!) Focus on Total Rewards: It's not always about the highest salary. Companies can emphasize holistic benefits, remote work flexibility, and a supportive culture to stand out. Celina Deosaran talks about that here: https://lnkd.in/gYYQw-AV In a competitive market, it's essential for candidates to think about long-term fit, and for companies to step up with compelling reasons to join and stay. We're happy things are heating up! 🔥

What an awesome night at DisruptHR KW! Kudos to Zdravko (Zee) Gunjevic, Dunja Vujovic, Ricky Luo and the team for a fun, insightful and flawless event! Terrific seeing old friends and make great new connections. Some things I learned: - a 5 min talk with 20 slides that auto advance ... is a big challenge. But also SO much fun! - Generalists are SO necessary to bring the magic into teams. #crosspollinatingshitdisturbers - Reluctant leaders are the future ... also keep power away from those who want it most! - Actuarial damages are a scary! #terminatewithextremecaution - Americans spend an average of 17 min/day reading & an average of 5+ hrs/day scrolling #wtf - It takes 200 hrs to make a friend ... but also I will overshare and be your bff after a 30 min coffee - we can avoid leader burnout by ditching servant leadership and being selfish together #signmeup Thanks to all of my fellow speakers, the terrific sponsors & Chocolate Soup for the fun lego me!
