This year’s recipient of the Sheelagh Nolan Award for Excellence in Teaching goes to Marylee Kozera! Marylee has 20 years of teaching experience and holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University as well as a master’s degree in Inclusive Education from Acadia University. She is currently the teacher for the Enhanced Support Program at Central Kings Rural High School within the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education. Marylee’s passion for education was ignited early in life when she had the opportunity to babysit two remarkable individuals with Autism. These individuals inspired her to embrace new perspectives and deepened her awareness of the challenges many families encounter in finding high-quality resources and support services for their children. Marylee remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential. We are so proud to give this award to such a wonderful lifelong educator! Congratulations Marylee!

This weekend, Porter was excited to be part of the Autism Aviators event at Halifax Stanfield International Airport! Hosted by Autism Nova Scotia, this event provided individuals with autism the opportunity to experience each stage of air travel first-hand, including check-in, security screening, and boarding one of our aircraft. This mock travel day aims to help participants get more comfortable with the travel process and ease some of the stress that may affect participants and their families. A heartfelt thank you to Lake City Cider for hosting EmploymentWorks HRM participants on a recent work experience! Their generosity and welcoming spirit are among the many reasons we appreciate this partnership. Participants worked in both back and front of house, completing many tasks that are regularly done by Lake City Cider staff. During two days of the work experience, Lake City Cider generously donated a portion of the proceeds from select ciders to support Autism Nova Scotia. We are so grateful for their commitment to building inclusive communities and supporting the EmploymentWorks cohort!
