🚀 Reflecting on an Inspiring Week: Japan Aging Tech CTA Program 🌟
Last week, we wrapped up an incredible in-person program in Tokyo (Dec 2–6), where Canadian AgeTech innovators connected with Japan’s leaders in health and aging care. This immersive week demonstrated the power of global collaboration in tackling opportunities and challenges of aging populations.
🎯 Highlights
Day 1: Orientation and 1:1 meetings at the Embassy of Canada to Japan, sparking valuable initial conversations.
Day 2: Our Signature Event at the Embassy featured ~100 industry stakeholders (Japanese corporations, investors, government, care sector operators...) With opening remarks from Brendan Murphy (Embassy of Canada), an overview of CTA programs by Asami Karasuda, and an introduction to the National Research Council Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) by Shigeru Sasaki.
A thought-provoking panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in AgeTech adoption followed, featuring Dominic Carter (The Carter Group / Living Best), Yasuko Akutsu (Aging 2.0), and Yuya Watanabe (Scrum Studio), moderated by Rodney Kelly, Healthcare Globalisation Specialist.
Startups then pitched their solutions, resulting in a bustling catered networking lunch, multiple offers of collaboration, and over 50 1-1 meetings!
Day 3–4: Networking sessions at ILS, and an insightful visit to SOMPO's Future Care Lab in Japan, a cutting-edge R&D hub revolutionizing aging care through collaboration with startups & SOMPO's extensive care network in Japan. A special thank you to Yano-san and Saori H. for their hospitality and insights during this visit, and to Stephen Johnston for helping us organize it!
Day 5: Exclusive pitches to 20+ CVCs at ARCH Incubation Center, thanks to Hitomi Ogawa & the ARCH team, & the Tokyo Venture Capital Hub, wrapping with a celebratory farewell lunch.
