Last week the BCC team was in Indonesia and the Philippines in conjunction with a Team Canada trade mission led by Minister Mary Ng. These two countries – the most populous in Southeast Asia – are some of the fastest growing economies in the #IndoPacific region. Our President and CEO Goldy Hyder led a business delegation from our member companies, including Sun Life, Manulife, CAE, AtkinsRéalis, Parkland Corporation, Hatch, TELUS, Air Canada, BlackBerry and OpenText.   While it is clear to all that Canada has what the region needs – energy, food, infrastructure and technology-- it's important that we remain engaged for the long-term and demonstrate our ability to deliver as a reliable partner. Our meetings in Indonesia with key government leaders, including the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Minister of Trade, provided the opportunity to exchange views and establish valuable new connections between the Canadian private sector and Indonesian government. We congratulate Canadian and Indonesian officials for concluding the Canada-Indonesian Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA) negotiations and hope to see this important framework enter into force next year.  The BCC appreciated the tireless efforts of Ambassador Daniel Ardiles Simanjuntak and the team at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canada.    In the Philippines, we met with various important officials, including Secretary Go, the President’s Economic Advisor, the Secretary of Energy, as well as undersecretaries and senior officials from the Departments of Finance, Energy, Foreign Affairs, and Trade. It was clear to our delegation that Canadian investment is welcome. Canada is well positioned to help the Philippines in areas such as energy, financial services and asset management, technology, infrastructure and transportation. We thank Ambassador MARIA ANDRELITA AUSTRIA for extensive support during our visit.

The more #Canada listens to our international allies the smarter our energy, trade and environmental policies will be. I recently had the honour of discussing energy issues with H.E. Dr. Harry Tseng, the Head of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Canada. As the world's most important manufacturer of semi-conductors, Taiwan's #energysecurity is deeply connected to the world's security. Moreover, being an trade partner to Taiwan on energy, most notably #LNG, also supports energy #affordability for Taiwanese and acheivement of their #environmental goals. I encourage all Canadians to take in his important message.
