  • Today, the Calgary Construction Association was proud to host the 3rd Annual Premier’s Luncheon, bringing together industry leaders for a timely discussion—just a day after the Government of Alberta tabled Budget 2025. We were honored to welcome Premier Danielle Smith for a fireside chat, where we explored the challenges and opportunities facing Alberta’s construction industry. Topics ranged from public procurement and labour shortages to skills development, trades, and infrastructure spending—all critical to ensuring we can build the Calgary of tomorrow. With economic uncertainty driven by fluctuating oil prices, rising material costs, tariffs, and interest rates, our industry must remain adaptable. The Government of Alberta plays a vital role in providing the stability and investment needed to keep Alberta competitive, ensuring that infrastructure projects move forward and that our workforce has the necessary skills to meet demand. A special thank you to our members for attending and to our many sponsors for contributing to today’s event. The Calgary Construction Association will continue to advocate for policies that support a strong and resilient construction sector. Our engagement with the Government of Alberta remains a priority as we work to ensure that industry concerns are heard and addressed at every level. #Calgary #Alberta #Advocacy #PremiersLuncheon #Infrastructure #SkilledTrades #Tariffs

  • At the Calgary Construction Association, we believe in inspiring the next generation of builders, makers, and problem solvers. Through the partnership between CCA and Honour The Work, thousands of students in Calgary are experiencing stories that bring the construction industry to life - helping them see the incredible possibilities for their own futures. We at the CCA want to extend our gratitude for the donation of books from MiTek. As a result of their generosity, 48 more classrooms and libraries will receive copies of The House That She Built by Mollie Elkman. This inspiring book introduces young readers to the many hands and skills that come together to build a home - empowering them to dream about what they might build one day, too. The House That She Built is one of many books included in each school rollout of Honour The Work. These books are carefully chosen to celebrate construction, problem-solving, and creativity, and have already sparked so many great conversations as we’ve heard from teachers, parents, and students and industry. For the many who have asked, we’re pleased to share the full list of titles in each Honour The Work rollout. • READ/SHARE: With the Government of Alberta set to release Budget 2025 on February 27, here are the priorities the Calgary Construction Association calls to be fulfilled. Priority #1: Reinstatement of Funding for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant The Canada-Alberta Job Grant has been instrumental in helping our member companies, especially smaller businesses that account for 85 percent of our membership, provide essential upskilling and reskilling opportunities for their workforce. The program’s suspension has left a significant gap in our ability to address the persistent labour shortages in the construction sector. Alberta’s construction industry is experiencing unprecedented demand for skilled tradespeople, with an estimated 7,500 job vacancies in Calgary alone. Priority #2: Support for the HTW (Honour The Work) Program The HTW program has been a shining example of industry-led innovation, introducing over 850 Calgary elementary classrooms to construction trades in 2024. This program, fully funded by the Calgary Construction Association Education Fund and our partners, has ignited interest among young Albertans in pursuing careers in construction. However, continued support is critical to scaling this initiative to meet the growing demand for skilled workers. Priority #3: Consistent Funding for Local and Provincial Infrastructure Projects Calgary’s population continues to grow, placing increased pressure on our infrastructure. The Calgary Green Line LRT, the Fieldhouse, and other civic projects are essential to meeting the needs of our expanding city while stimulating local economic activity. The construction industry’s capacity to deliver these projects relies on stable and predictable funding commitments. #Calgary #Alberta #Construction #Advocacy Bill Black Frano Cavar
