We had the opportunity to host Patricia Phillips and Chair of The PBA Group of Companies, and Karen Brookman and CEO of WCD, at our latest event and the third iteration of our CEO Lunch Series, a key component of the Jarislowsky Fellowship in Business Management, exclusively for Haskayne MBA and EMBA students.
Both leaders shared their experiences and journeys. They discussed Calgary’s evolving business landscape, highlighting the city’s unique position as a hub for entrepreneurial innovation and emerging opportunities.
Drawing from their own experiences, they addressed the challenges of raising capital, the biases that often come into play, and the importance of securing the right funding that aligns with an organization’s values and goals. The discussion also explored strategies for navigating economic disruptions, emphasizing flexibility and resilience in leadership. Additionally, both leaders underscored the significance of emotional intelligence in effective leadership, reinforcing the need for self-awareness, adaptability, and empathy in decision-making.
Thank you to Ms. Phillips and Ms. Brookman for taking the time to share their journey, and to our Jarislowsky Co-Fellow, Irfhan Rawji, for facilitating the lunch.
