Full steam ahead! 🚂💨 A big thank you to everyone who attended our fascinating November Technical Session yesterday on CPKC's hydrogen locomotive program! Cosmo Skotniski, Manager, Hydrogen Locomotive Production & Execution, and Veronika Kowalczyk, EIT, Hydrogen Locomotive Program, took us through an exciting breakdown of their growing hydrogen fleet. From project milestones to the benefits of hydrogen and the key challenges the industry faces, it was a lively and insightful discussion! A few hydrogen fun facts from the session: 🔋 Hydrogen fuel cells actually perform better in cold temperatures due to the heat generated during operation. ⛽ Burning diesel currently contributes to 90% of CPKC's overall emissions. Transitioning to hydrogen locomotives could be a game-changer for emissions reductions! 💪 Hydrogen boasts the highest energy density by weight among fuels currently in use, making it a powerful option for long-haul transportation. 🏔 In Western Canada, regenerative braking combined with hydrogen-powered fuel cells helps tackle the challenges of mountainous terrain and undulating train rides. ⚖ Hydrogen is the lightest and most abundant element in the universe, offering immense potential as a sustainable energy source. A huge thank you to ILF Consulting Engineers for generously sponsoring this month’s Mix & Mingler and sharing more about their industry expertise! 👏 #MixandMingler #TechnicalSession #CanadianWomenInEnergy #CPKC #HydrogenLocomotive #Hydrogen #ILFConsulting Shauna Holmes | Jana Hackman | Leslie Cassidy | Britlynn Mracek | Alana Hoekstra (Turcotte) | Alena Blanes | Carmen Lazzer, CPA, CMA | Rachel O. | SueAnne Fu-Joncic | Sameera Kanji BSc.
