From January to October, Canadian feeder cattle exports to the US totaled just over 93,000 head, 16% smaller than last year and 27% smaller than the five-year average. The December USDA World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report projected corn production for 2024-25 to be steady with their November report. However, ethanol use (+50 million bu) and exports (+150 million bu) have been revised higher, decreasing ending stocks by 200 million bu. Alberta 550 lb steers rallied to $452/cwt in November and established a new all-time high. Ontario 550 lb steers also climbed in November, to $438/cwt and were within 2% of their all-time high set in August 2024. Canadian steer carcass weights averaged 965 lbs in October, 7 lbs heavier than last year and 13 lbs heavier than the five-year average. Western Canadian steer carcass weights were 4 lbs heavier than last year and 10 lbs heavier than the five-year average.
