An implementation science research team building capacity for sustainable transportation interventions.
About us
We are a team of researchers, city planning and engineering staff, and national organizations looking to catalyze the implementation of sustainable transportation interventions that support health, mobility, and equity outcomes in cities across Canada and Australia. Our focus is on two types of interventions - All Ages and Abilities (AAA) bicycle networks and speed management interventions - which serve as implementation science case studies.

It's already been 2 weeks since the end of the Urban Transitions conference in Spain, how time flies! I had the pleasure of catching up with CapaCITY-CapaCITÉ colleagues Ben Beck, Lauren Pearson and Kevin Manaugh, and sharing our work on Equity Considerations in All Ages and Abilities Bicycle Network Implementation in Canadian Cities. We found there was considerable variability across cities in the extent to which equity was considered. When equity was considered, it was mostly at the planning stage, rather than at the construction or sustainability stages. We are still analyzing the data so stay tuned for more results! #healthycities #knowledgesharing #cycling #socialequity

CapaCITY/É is hosting a webinar this Wednesday at 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST, featuring the work of INTERACT. National Research Manager Zoé Poirier Stephens and CapaCITY/É Principal Investigator Dr. Yan Kestens will present INTERACT’s findings to date, reflect on the current state of research concerning the built environment and health, and discuss opportunities for future research. Since 2017, INTERACT has developed and implemented mixed methods natural experiment studies together with partners, including cohort studies in four Canadian cities: the All Ages and Abilities Cycling Network in Victoria; the City Greenways Plan in Vancouver; the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Saskatoon; and the ecological transition and resilience policies that call for an array of greening, place-making, traffic-calming, and transportation interventions in Montreal. Hope to see you there! Keep Calm & Curb Plunk On. I am really excited to be sharing on Monday how at Saanich we were able to build 18km of protected cycling infrastructure in 18 months using modular concrete barriers. Thanks to HUB Cycling for putting on this event. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Eventbrite link in the comments below. #quickbuild #protectedcycling #activetransportation #hubcycling

Our latest blog post, Reflections on the Summer Training Institute, written by attendee Lúcio Gonçalves Lustosa, is now live! https://lnkd.in/gAhp-YHS "The content of the Institute was an exceptional mix of conceptual and practical knowledge, thanks to the expertise of the academics and engineers/urban planners who took on the task of speaking and mentoring us participants during the three days of the event."

Our post-doctoral fellow, Lauren Pearson, was recently featured in an article discussing the role of lower speed limits in enhancing road safety. Highlighting the regional Victorian town of Mildura, Lauren noted how reducing speeds in the town center has significantly improved access to active transport and boosted livability. https://lnkd.in/g-BRMiQq
