And, because our housing market has forever changed, we have an opportunity to change too. Construction continues to progress on Cielo Condos, thanks to Collecdev Markee's dedicated construction team. Designed by KPMB Architects, the 34-storey luxury build is located in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood, providing new homes in the heart of the city. The project thoughtfully integrates the historic Bloor Street United Church and the George C. Pidgeon House into its podium, preserving significant elements of the neighbourhood's architectural heritage. Cielo Condos beautifully blends modern luxury and historical preservation, contributing a distinctive presence to Toronto's skyline while honouring the city's rich history. The project involves meticulously restoring the 19th-century neo-Gothic Bloor Street United Church, including interior and exterior renovations. Approximately 20,000 square feet of community and commercial office spaces within the church are being redesigned, and an additional 40,000 square feet of leasable space is being added to support the congregation's ongoing programs. The George C. Pidgeon House, dating back to 1888, is also being preserved and integrated into the development. The west end of the historic house has been demolished to allow for restoration work, including underpinning the decaying foundations, while protecting and restoring its heritage exterior. The United, Anglican, and Presbyterian Churches of Canada have entered into a collaborative lease agreement to share national office spaces within the refurbished Bloor Street United Church. This partnership aims to foster ecumenical relationships and reduce costs. Cielo Condos is a story of true community collaboration and architectural preservation. Drone Photography: UrbanToronto.ca

Today, on #NationalHousingDay, we are reminded that every individual deserves a livable and affordable place to call home. Canada’s housing crisis is an urgent challenge, felt by countless families and individuals struggling to secure housing in our cities. Tackling this crisis demands collective action across all sectors. The private sector knows how to get housing built - it has a meaningful opportunity to make a difference. At Collecdev Markee, our approach integrates affordable housing into market purpose-built rental projects, working in partnership with non-profit organizations and public agencies. Affordability doesn't have to sacrifice quality. These collaborations are essential to addressing housing supply issues and delivering much-needed homes to communities across the city. Two standout examples of this model are: Tyndale Green: This transformative community in North York, developed in partnership with Tyndale University, will feature 1,500 homes, with a significant number designated as affordable. Designed by KPMB Architects, the development also includes a daycare, recreation centre, and vibrant public spaces, creating a sustainable, inclusive, and thriving neighbourhood. 275 Merton Street: In partnership with CreateTO, we’re developing a 494-unit rental community in Toronto's Davisville Village, where 30% of homes are dedicated to affordable housing. Designed by award-winning gh3*, the project emphasizes sustainability by meeting Tier 2 of the Toronto Green Standard and offers high-quality homes connected to the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail. These projects exemplify how public-private partnerships can make a meaningful difference in delivering high-quality affordable homes in our cities. ----- #NationalHousingDay #AffordableHousing #HousingCrisis #PurposeBuiltRentals #CommunityDevelopment #SustainableHousing #UrbanDesign #TorontoHousing #HousingForAll #InclusiveCommunities #GreenBuilding #UrbanLiving
Collecdev Markee is excited to have strong support from the City of Toronto on our recently announced project at 275 Merton St. in Toronto's Davisville Village. Through collaboration with CreateTO, the sustainable 494-unit purpose-built rental project (designed by gh3*) provides 30% affordable homes and new public space that connects Merton Street to the Kay Gardner Beltline Trail. “Through this partnership, the City is supporting a strategic land assembly that will deliver significant city-building benefits, including a substantial number of affordable and market rent-controlled homes. The proposed housing project is a much-needed step towards delivering on the City’s housing targets and will provide options for Torontonians of low-and moderate-income levels.” – Mayor Olivia Chow* “One of the key aspects of the City’s HousingTO Plan is to use City lands and partnerships to enable the delivery of housing. We are at a critical moment in Toronto and we are finally building the housing we need in this city. Projects like this at 275 Merton Street are all part of the solution to bring real affordability to the people of Toronto and people who want to call Toronto home.” – Councillor Gord Perks (Parkdale-High Park), Chair of the Planning and Housing Committee* *Source: https://lnkd.in/gjqyimh7 See Storeys coverage below: https://lnkd.in/gvuxeq6x
