When you visit your pharmacy, you should feel confident in the care you receive. The College of Pharmacists of BC has created an “Expectations of Care” poster that highlights the standards of care you can expect from your pharmacy team. This includes ensuring you receive culturally safe and inclusive care, that your medications are safe and appropriate, and that your privacy is always respected. The beautiful artwork on the poster was created by Bayja Morgan-Banke, an artist from the Toquaht (Nuu-Chah-Nulth) and Secwépemc (Shuswap) nations. Her artwork has been essential in grounding our work in a celebration of First Nations culture. Each icon holds deep meaning and reflects the core values and expectations of pharmacy care. Look for it prominently displayed at your local pharmacy or visit https://lnkd.in/gtdv6EB4. #YourPharmacyCare #PublicSafety

In our role of protecting public health and safety, the College of Pharmacists of BC has released a preliminary report that reveals a concerning trend: business pressures in pharmacies may be making it harder to provide the quality care British Columbians deserve. Pharmacy professionals report facing increasing pressure to meet performance targets, often at the expense of public health and safety. This is not just a local issue. Pharmacies across Canada are facing similar pressures, highlighting a systemic problem that demands attention. This is why we’ve launched a confidential tip line where pharmacy professionals and students can share concerns about business pressures affecting client care. The purpose of our tipline is simple: to stay on top of the issue and to watch trends, so CPBC can take action. Learn more about the report and submit a tip at https://lnkd.in/g2wkjBeC. #pharmacysafety #patientsafety #bcpharmacists

College of Pharmacists of British Columbia reposted this
Recently, Deputy Registrar Heather Biggar Biggar and I were invited to speak to first year UBC PharmSci students during their Integration Activities session. Our talks focused on our unique responsibilities as a health regulator and how we fulfill our commitment to public health and safety. A huge thanks to the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for the opportunity to connect with such a dynamic and enthusiastic group of future pharmacy professionals. We were invited to share our knowledge, but as is so often the case with these sessions, we ended up learning ourselves. The students were curious and unbiased, and their fresh perspectives on the profession and health regulation reminded us why we do what we do. Their big picture thinking and genuine passion for public protection was so reassuring, especially as pharmacy care continues to expand and evolve. #UBCPharmSci #PublicSafety #ProfessionalAccountability #PharmacyEducation #HealthRegulation

It's been an incredible year of growth and learning here at the College of Pharmacists of BC! As 2024 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of our key achievements. We've been dedicated to making sure British Columbians get the effective and compassionate pharmacy care they deserve. This year, that meant: Exploring the link between business pressures in pharmacies and public health. Preparing to transition to the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). Working closely with Indigenous partners to create safer spaces and more equitable care experiences for First Nations and Indigenous clients. Further expanding pharmacists’ scope of practice Releasing our ‘What You Can Expect from Your Pharmacy Visit’ Poster Establishing a new Business Transformation Department to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. Read my full message to learn more about these initiatives and how we're working to ensure every British Columbian receives the high-quality pharmacy care they deserve. https://lnkd.in/g5gZktxq #BC #BCPharmacists #Pharmacy #HealthcareRegulation

As we approach the long weekend, we want to take a moment to acknowledge that Remembrance Day on November 11 is more than just a statutory holiday. It is a day to reflect on and honour the courage and sacrifices made by our veterans, and to remember the impacts of war and our responsibility to work for peace. Equally important is the observance of Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8. On this day we recognize the contributions of thousands of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People who have fought in every major battle Canada has been part of. Tragically, upon returning home from battlefields where they were considered equals, Indigenous veterans faced racism, discrimination, and devastating colonial practices, the impacts of which continue to be felt today. As we observe a moment of silence or pin a poppy to our jackets, let us also think of the resilience of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. To learn more about the history of Indigenous veterans in Canada, we encourage you to check out this resource: Indigenous Veterans: Equals on the Battlefields, but Not at Home https://ow.ly/Tkbw50U2xIb. #IndigenousVeterans #WeRemember #HonourIndigenousVeterans #remembranceday #neverforget
