Ottawa's Original Digital Filmmakers' Festival, providing professional development opportunities for emerging filmmakers

About us

The Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival was founded on the principle that new and emerging filmmakers would be encouraged to create short films, and be able to screen them in a setting that provided a real world film festival experience, complete with jury evaluation, awards, and gala. We have seen many Digi60 Alumni go on to become professional members of the film and television industry. The festival also aims to promote Ottawa as a sustainable film industry destination with desirable cast and crew available for hire. Digi60 is not just about making films. We also make filmmakers.

This year, I had the incredible opportunity to bring my vision to life. Digi 60 believed in my idea and provided funding for my very first project with a budget. The journey was filled with challenges and stressful months, but I gave it my all. I couldn’t have done it without the support of those who were willing to lend a hand. I’m forever grateful for their help and deeply inspired to work even harder in my journey that has just begun.

This year’s Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival wrapped up last weekend, folks, and we’d like to extend our appreciation to everyone who helped make our special 20th Anniversary programming an overwhelming success! 🎉 We couldn’t have put together such an incredible event without the support of our funders, sponsors, volunteers, crew and of course, our incredible community of new and emerging filmmakers. Thank you all! 🙏 Together, we accomplished a lot! • 6 sold out workshops • 3 mentorship programs, including a Microgrant • 48 short films screened and produced by Ottawa filmmakers • 3 networking events including a networking lunch with a dozen decision makers And if that wasn’t enough, we hosted an entire conference for media, art and film focusing on building an inclusive ecosystem for storytellers in Ottawa! 📖 Thanks again for joining us for our 20th Anniversary, and we hope to see you next time. Please stay tuned for more photos from the event and information to come! 🎬

It’s been a week since we wrapped up the 20th Anniversary celebration of the Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival, and honestly, I’m still soaking it all in. Seeing months of planning and hard work come to life for the filmmakers who inspire us—it’s a feeling that’s hard to describe. This year, we took on an ambitious program, and I couldn’t be prouder to say: we pulled it off! Every event was sold out, every seat was filled, and the energy in the room was electric. We showcased 38 brand new films created for the festival (48 in total), and I am so inspired by the filmmakers who rose to the challenge. Your dedication, creativity, and willingness to invest in yourselves are what this festival is all about. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible Digi60 team, volunteers, and supporters who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this milestone celebration happen. To every person who lent their time, energy, and expertise—thank you for making Digi60 a place where filmmakers can thrive. Here’s to 20 years of storytelling, community, and creativity—and to many more years ahead! #Digi60 #2024Digi60

Sign me up! 🙋 The decision to attend yesterday's With US: Media Art & Film Conference presented by Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival & Digital Arts Resource Centre was a no-brainer. I was especially looking forward to hearing Gabriela Warrior Renaud's (pictured standing near the exit sign) lecture about the Ethics of Documentary Filmmaking. We talked about the duty of care towards participants and our responsibilities as filmmakers during each stage of production. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:  -Documentary participants are more than that. They're your team members; without them, there would be no story; -You can sacrifice video components to make interviews more comfortable; -Approach editing and assembly the way you'd want your own story to be told; -Be mindful of the spaces in which you show the work. Using storytelling excellence for good, from communications to content creation

Excited to be moderating a panel for Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival this Friday at 3:30 pm at Club SAW, exploring the role of regional storytelling through community TV. I'll be chatting with wonderful producers: CHRISTINE MAKI of CBC Ottawa, and Jason Levy of Bell Canada's TV1. We'll be diving into topics like: 💡 Why should we care about community media? 💡 What trends are emerging in community TV? 💡 How can creators tell regional stories with cross-country appeal? 👉 Get your tix: https://lnkd.in/evfEFchV
