Through our CEO, Nicolas S. Roy's lens : Last week, Google unveiled Android XR, alongside Samsung’s Project Moohan—the first device to run it. It's a pretty exciting moment for me personally, and for Dpt. as a whole. Our journey in mixed reality began with a Google Cardboard and a hacked Samsung Gear headset. Those early experiments (scrappy as they were), helped lay the foundation for the work we do today. Seeing the evolution of these technologies, and imagining what we can create with Android XR, feels like coming full circle. The images below are snapshots of those early projects: -A custom Google Cardboard we modified for an early version of The Enemy, circa 2017 (in collaboration with Office national du film du Canada, Lucid Realities, Emissive, and France Télévisions). It even had a hole for the camera passthrough. -A makeshift Samsung Gear “headset” we hacked together (including tape on the plug to bypass the OS… sorry Samsung Electronics), complete with a hardhat and some colorful flair. Basically a mixed reality Piñata. This wild prototype was part of an acid trip of a project with Nicolas Fonseca, for C2 Montreal in 2018. With platforms like Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro, and now Android XR, it’s clear that the future for mixed reality is brighter and more versatile than ever and we’re looking forward to showing you what’s coming next from Dpt. in 2025! #XR #MixedReality #AndroidXR #Google #MetaQuest #AppleVisionPro #Innovation #CreativeTech #AugmentedReality #VirtualReality

Through Hugues Bruyere’ Lens, our Chief Innovation Officer : I’ve experienced much of my explorations centered around 3D Gaussian splats on regular-sized monitors, mobiles, and VR. While these displays offer valuable perspectives and use cases, I realized they didn’t fully connect with another interest of mine: the importance of physicality in an experience. To bridge this gap, I decided to experiment with a different display format. I set up a physical installation in the studio: three large TVs (two 75” and one 85”) arranged vertically in portrait mode, along with a controller. This ‘immersive wall’ creates a communal experience, offering a fresh way to interact with and explore both a series of captures I’ve been working on and an ongoing project at Dpt. The vertical triptych format provides a unique portal into these reconstructions. This setup allows me to revisit scenes like the "Radio Doctor’s” shop or the “Portland Japanese Garden” at a 1:1 scale, exploring them with a sense of depth and immersion that feels different from VR. It also introduces a physical dimension by enabling the intentional misalignment of scenes across the three displays, deconstructing the reconstructed spaces in a playful way. It’s been a refreshing step toward combining digital content with physical spaces—something I will explore further. The scenes shown in the video include: • The Redpath Museum, located in Montreal. • Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer, located in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer in Camargue. • The Portland Japanese Garden. • The Royal Ontario Museum, featuring a statue of Zeus attributed to the circle of Phidias. • A Montreal alleyway. • Another Montreal alleyway. • Montreal's 'Radio Doctor' shop. • One last Montreal alleyway. #3dgs #3dgaussiansplatting #RadianceFields #3dscanning #3dscan #3d #memories #gaussiansplatting

In this new iteration of our virtual visit explorations of the Redpath Museum in Montreal, we’re taking the experience out of the headset and onto a physical installation: a triptych of huge screens showcasing the museum’s iconic Triceratops and Gorgosaurus fossils, using 3D scans created by our very own Hugues Bruyere and rendered in real time with Gaussian Splatting. This immersive installation showcases the potential of digital cultural assets. Not only can they recreate the awe of a museum visit, but they also allow for entirely new forms of storytelling and interaction. This installation is just one step in reimagining how we connect with cultural heritage. We’re exploring how immersive technologies can inspire wonder, foster accessibility, and create unforgettable moments of discovery. More coming soon! #ImmersiveInstallation #CulturalHeritage #GaussianSplatting #3DScanning #CulturalInnovation #XR #RedpathMuseum #MadeWithUnity

Dinosaurs are going digital! 🦖✨ Sneak peek of our latest VR exploration with the Redpath Museum. Using 3D scans and Gaussian Splatting, we’re exploring how we can redefine how people access and experience cultural treasures. Check out the demo and let us know what you think... #VR #CulturalInnovation #3DScanning #GaussianSplatting #RedpathMuseum
🦖 Dinosaurs in VR? Yes, please! 🦖 I'm pretty excited to share a sneak peek of one of our latest explorations: a hyper-realistic virtual visit to the Redpath Museum, a Natural History Museum in Montreal. Using 3D scans crafted by our very own Hugues Bruyere and real-time rendering powered by Gaussian Splatting, we’ve captured parts of the museum’s collection—including its iconic Triceratops and Gorgosaurus fossils. This scan was done in a quick exploratory phase, but this isn’t just about achieving visual fidelity; the next step is about leveraging cutting-edge technology and compelling storytelling to redefine how we access and experience culture. The experience is magical—you feel like you're there, with the added benefit of being able to get even closer to these incredible specimens than real-life museum visits typically allow. Another exciting aspect is the flexibility this type of content offers. These digital assets can come to life across multiple formats, from immersive XR experiences to interactive installations and web-based explorations. It’s all about meeting audiences where they are and creating new pathways to connect with cultural treasures. This teaser is just the beginning, but it shows how technology can transform the way we discover, engage with, and preserve history. Check out the demo below! 🦖✨ #VR #XR #VirtualReality #3DScanning #GaussianSplatting #CulturalHeritage #CrossPlatform #Accessibility #CulturalInnovation #RedpathMuseum #NaturalHistory #Dinosaurs

One more thing... Now this is very exciting! Oto’s Planet is officially available on the Apple Vision Pro! 🌍🚀 This is not only Dpt.'s first project to debut on AVP but also one of the first narrative experiences available on the platform. Oto’s Planet invites you to step into a richly interactive, spatial tale—exploring the serene life of Oto and Skippy, navigating the challenges sparked by the arrival of Exo, and reflecting on themes of coexistence, colonization, and environmental fragility. Bringing this immersive story to life on AVP has been a journey of discovery and innovation as well as a little blood, sweat and tears (right, Thibault Sequier?). Thank you to everyone who contributed to this adventure and to our wonderful partners Skill Lab - Creative Studio Small Creative. Here's to new frontiers in storytelling and spatial computing! #OtosPlanet #AppleVisionPro #ImmersiveStorytelling #SpatialComputing
