⚙️👷♀️Today, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, and the critical role women in STEM play in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future. 🚀   Energy access is a gendered issue—women and girls are disproportionately affected by energy poverty, yet they remain underrepresented in the energy sector. At EM-ONE Energy Solutions, we are committed to bridging the gender gap in STEM and energy, through capacity building initiatives such as the Sierra Leone’s Women in STEM traineeship in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and our own Graduate Engineering Program in Nigeria. We trained recent female graduates in sustainable energy fundamentals, providing them with hands-on experience working on high-impact projects, powering healthcare and education facilities. By doing so, we are not just equipping them with technical skills but also helping them launch careers in the energy sector.   These efforts not only empower women but also build a stronger, more diverse energy workforce for the future. Our Program Manager for Powering Healthcare, Karine Makhijani Malagon, had the chance to connect with funders, donors, developers, and technologists—all united by one goal: accelerating sustainable electrification for Africa’s health facilities.   Here are some key insights that stood out:   1️⃣ Sustainable Models: The future isn’t just about installing solar—it’s about innovative financing and business models that ensure systems are maintained and operational for the long haul. 2️⃣ Data That Matters: Energy reliability metrics are important, but we also need KPIs that capture the real impact on health outcomes. Remote monitoring? It’s not just helpful; it’s essential. 3️⃣ Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS): Not a one-size-fits-all solution, but it’s becoming an increasingly critical tool in closing the energy access gap. 4️⃣ Innovative Finance: Think beyond traditional models.
