#Ontario has officially upped it’s procurement target to 7500 MW. We strongly support the protection of farmland, with a stated goal to help keep farmers farming. We aim to further support difficult farm economics by working with policymakers and relevant stakeholders to ensure private landowners can maintain a choice to participate and support the massive increase in demand through smart dual use solar, specifically referred to as #agrivoltaics. This combines farm production and energy production in a modern way that does not reflect the current allowable choice of biofuels or food, but rather food and electricity on the same land at the same time without subsidies or policy incentives, and built where it is needed most. Agrivoltaics Canada provides a winning pathway to help meet the growing target and increasingly flexible grid with cheap power that does not require mega project type approvals and can be built throughout willing municipalities with willing farmer hosts. It was a pleasure to meet with Premier Doug Ford and #Energy and #Electrification Minister Stephen Lecce to discuss #Ontario's economic opportunities and the critical role of energy in the province’s future. As the Minister mentioned, Ontario will need to double its supply of electricity in the next 10 years. This is no easy task! I believe strongly that #agrivoltaics - new(ish) and fair approach to solar—should play a significant role in that strategy.
