About us
Our mission is to inspire young people to pursue further studies and careers in the field of science, technology and engineering. Our vision is of a world which celebrates success in science, technology and engineering and in which young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes. We pursue our mission primarily through running robotics competitions for school-age students at the elementary, junior high school and senior high school level. We believe that as a society we face enormous challenges, and that to confront these challenges, we will need the full benefit of the energy, talent and dedication of our next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists. We believe that in any community, we encourage what we celebrate. When we celebrate success in sports, we motivate youth to excel in sports. When we celebrate success in entertainment and the arts, we motivate youth to excel as entertainers and artists. We believe it is important to celebrate, at the high school level and earlier, participation in and success in science, technology and engineering, in order to inspire young people to pursue further studies and careers in these areas. We believe that our prosperity as a society is driven by our productivity. For our society to be as productive as it can be, it must be as innovative as it can be. Investing in programs that encourage young people to develop related skills is one of the most important investments our society can make. We are a registered charity, and we are a volunteer-led and volunteer-run organization with a solid track record of success.

In today’s technology-driven world, STEM skills are crucial, yet women continue to be underrepresented in these fields. We are committed to bridging this gap through engaging STEM workshops and interactive FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge robots, inspiring girls to see themselves as innovators. By showcasing FLL robots in action at TELUS locations in Toronto and Vancouver, sponsored by Fortinet, we sparked excitement and curiosity in young minds, while immersing them in hands-on STEM experiences. These sessions go beyond building robots—they focus on developing skills and empowering girls to lead in tech, engineering, and innovation. Designed to provide meaningful experiences for participants, these sessions offer companies the opportunity to invest in the next generation and support these efforts through tailored engagement options. Last week our staff was led through a workshop on AI by the team at FutureIQ Inc and it got me wondering...what is everyone else doing out there to develop their organization's awareness of AI, best practices, use cases, and the ethics behind AI. There is so much to learn and it's a rapidly evolving tool that is available to us. I'd LOVE to hear what others are doing! Please comment below or send me a DM.

Whenever we find ourselves in places and stages of privilege, it's vital to find ways to share that stage and uplift others. I was incredibly honored when Marwa Zaryab reached out to me to moderate a panel for the upcoming Girls+ in STEAM Olympics. Recognizing her passion and dedication as a part of this event's planning committee, and her talent as a first-year Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, what better way to elevate this experience than to invite her to co-moderate with me! Together, we'll be leading a discussion with an incredible lineup of industry leaders—Lisa Maria Ramraj, Fatima Imdad, Lavanya Natarajan, and Aaiman Aamir. Excited that Marwa's insights and enthusiasm will enrich our conversation and inspire others. Open doors, share the stage, and embrace opportunity! #WomenInSTEAM #ShareTheStage #STEMOlympics Image description: Girls+ in STEAM Olympics (GISO) 2024 moderators with industry panelists
