What an incredible experience at the GGNET (Global Genomics Network for Education and Training) summit in Athens! The meeting exceeded all my expectations: - We had representatives from over 50 countries, with a special emphasis on the global south. - We engaged in discussions on tools, strategies, and practices for educating, training, and empowering healthcare providers in genomic technologies. - Key stakeholders, including representatives from funding agencies, ministries of health, and patient voices, were part of the conversation. A truly diverse and informative gathering with a clear call to action for advancing genomics worldwide! #GGNET #Genomics #Healthcare #GlobalCollaboration #Innovation #GlobalHealth Genome Canada NHS England World Health Organization Genomics England Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (GGMC)

One of my favourite moments during #TeamCanadaTradeMissions is the B2B walkthrough - because this is where the real business happens! It's where Canadian companies meet potential investors, find local partners, and forge deals that strengthen our international trade relationships. This week in Sydney, hundreds of B2B meetings took place, creating valuable connections and opportunities for Canadian and Australian businesses. These meetings are the backbone of our trade missions, driving tangible results that grow our economy. While I try to keep my interactions brief (after all, they're here to do business!), I'm grateful to the entrepreneurs who shared glimpses of their negotiations with me. We've already seen results, including three new MOUs signed between: 🤝 Genome Canada & Australian Genomics 🤝 Digital Research Alliance of Canada | Alliance de recherche numérique du Canada & Australia Research Data Commons 🤝 Nova Graphene & TUFWRAP Pty Ltd. When Canadian businesses succeed abroad, they grow at home - creating good jobs and strengthening our communities. It's exciting to see our companies diversifying their growth by expanding into the Australian market. Watching these 🇨🇦-🇦🇺 partnerships flourish this week has been remarkable, further strengthening our historic relationship through increased trade and collaboration! #TCTM #CanAus #TradeDiversification

To one of the best mentors I've ever had… Dear Peter (my PhD supervisor), It feels like we only bump into each other every 6 or 7 years and it is usually at a Genome Canada event! Imagine that. Peter, I wanted to take a quick moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your exceptional mentorship. Your guidance has been incredibly transformative in shaping my journey as a researcher and in my professional career. In particular, I'd like to thank you for: 1. Inspiring creative and interdisciplinary exploration: Your encouragement for me to venture beyond traditional boundaries has broadened my perspective and enriched my approach to work and life. It has inspired me to ask all those interesting questions and to demand answers… and actions... of others and of myself. 2. Nurturing my growth: Your unwavering support has been instrumental in my development throughout my career — in the public sector and the private sector. You helped me to cultivate curiosity in my approach to the world; this has helped me to develop essential skills and confidence. 3. Navigating complexities: Your insights and advice have been invaluable in helping me understand and maneuver through the intricate world of agriculture. Nothing is ever as simple as we want it to be. Nor should it be if we want to learn. You taught me that. 4. Fostering professional development: Your mentorship has extended beyond the walls of academia. Even though time and miles have separated us, you are a presence - and have continued to influence and shape my work, even from the sidelines. Peter, the impact you've had on both my academic pursuits and professional growth has been truly profound. Your continued support and belief in my potential mean more to me than I can adequately express. Cheers to Peter - to all mentors. 🥂 Mentorship comes in all shapes and sizes and sometimes comes along at unexpected times in our lives. Let’s always be grateful for these gifts. Let’s pay it forward! Peter WB Phillips Genome Canada

Director of Research and Innovation at Genome Canada. Mental Health Advocate. Proud Mom.

I was delighted to participate in the 2025 #AAASmtg in Boston as part of Team #Canada, led by the Office of the Chief Science Advisor to Canada. It was a great opportunity to meet with Canadian and international colleagues, to discuss ground-breaking research and innovation, how it is shaping tomorrow, and strengthen collaborations across science, policy, and communications. It was especially great to partner with Perimeter Institute Emily Petroff, PhD, CAPM® and BioCanRx Stephanie Michaud to not only showcase our cutting-edge research and unique approach, but also collectively showcase Canada's strengths: •Collaborating across sectors •Strong and stable democracy •Sound economic and financial foundation •Exceptional pools of natural resources, land, and water •Skilled, trained and hard-working people •Innovative leaders in #genomics, quantum and AI  This conference reminds us that with growing complex issues, collaboration is key. Thank you Cara Marshall, Dina Santos, Chris Begley, Hon. Bernadette Jordan for all the hard work in coordinating our participation and organizing important meetings in Boston. Thank you Geneviève Tanguay, Vice Chief Science Advisor of Canada, for leading us on the ground. #TeamCanada Ocean Networks Canada Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Canada Research Coordinating Committee Secretariat SSHRC-CRSH Institut quantique - Université de Sherbrooke Genome Canada
