As we prepare to say goodbye to Olympic Plaza at the end of 2024, we reflect on what this iconic space has meant to Calgarians. Built for the 1988 Winter Olympics, Olympic Plaza quickly became the city's heart, hosting medal ceremonies, community events, ice skating, and concerts under the stars—moments that have shaped the memories of so many. For us at GGA, Olympic Plaza holds a special place in our story. It was one of our first significant projects, a milestone that laid the foundation for our firm’s legacy of design and community impact. Seeing this space come to life, and witnessing how it brought people together, set the bar for the thoughtful design principles we strive for in every project. As Olympic Plaza moves into its next phase as part of the Arts Commons Transformation, we’re filled with pride to have been a part of its past. We look forward to seeing how this new chapter will continue to inspire and serve the city for future generations. Last week, our team had the privilege of guest lecturing for ENCI 697 – Engineering Projects Planning and Controls at the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering. It was an exciting opportunity to share our insights on architects' critical role in construction project management and the importance of collaboration across disciplines for successful project delivery. We appreciate the university’s initiative to bridge the gap between academia and industry by inviting experienced professionals to speak. It was an honour to engage with the next generation of engineers and project managers, and we hope the students gained a deeper understanding of architecture’s role in driving project success. Thank you to the University of Calgary and Prof. David Hannah for inviting us to inspire and connect with future industry leaders! #Engineering #ProjectManagement #FutureLeaders #UniversityofCalgary #BuiltEnvironment

The Forge is nearing completion, and we couldn’t be more excited! This sustainable residential development is a standout in Northwest Calgary’s University District. With its striking architecture and prime location across from Central Commons Park, The Forge is set to become a cornerstone of this vibrant, connected community.
The final touches taking place at The Forge, a multi-family residential building in the University District in Calgary, Alberta. Designed by GGA-Architecture and built by Kanas Corporation with our SuperForm ICF, the rental units are now available to lease with Vivenda Group. We’re loving the exterior finishes and colours that were chosen. But even better than that, we love the fact that The Forge was built using sustainable materials that will stand the test of time.

Newly completed, Two Park Central stands as a true landmark in Calgary’s Beltline. Rising 40 storeys, its striking concave form blends high-end design with thoughtful functionality. The tower floods interiors with natural light and offers sweeping views, making it a bold addition to Calgary’s skyline. At the heart of the design, carefully considered amenities elevate urban living: ✨ A rooftop pool offering serene escapes with panoramic views ✨ A 39th-floor lounge and seasonal bar with operable windows for versatile indoor-outdoor experiences, perfect for memorable moments Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the suites connect indoor and outdoor spaces, while thoughtful touches like a pet-friendly dog-walking area enhance convenience and create a sense of community. We’re proud to have collaborated with SCB and CID Design Group to bring this premium residential project to life for Hines. We’re thrilled to share that Mathison Hall, home to the Haskayne School of Business, has received the 2024 Calgary Mayor’s Urban Design Award for Green & Resilient Design! This project unites a cutting-edge new wing with the revitalized Scurfield Hall, setting a new benchmark for sustainable, innovative learning environments. Designed to achieve Zero Carbon Building (i.e. Net Zero) and LEED Platinum standards, Mathison Hall reduces energy use and enhances occupant comfort through advanced Thermal Energy Demand Intensity (TEDI) strategies. Its water-based heating and cooling systems maximize efficiency while allowing more space for fresh air ventilation, maintaining energy efficiency, comfort and a cool environment. The building's sawtooth façade promotes natural ventilation, optimizing air flow through louvers to regulate temperature. Combined with radiant heating and cooling systems embedded in the floors, these design elements ensure year-round comfort with minimal energy consumption. Roof-mounted photovoltaic panels generate clean energy, offsetting nearly half of the building’s annual CO₂ emissions—demonstrating the active role sustainable design can play in reducing environmental impact. This award-winning project reflects our commitment to creating sustainable, resilient spaces that enrich communities and advance environmental responsibility. Mathison Hall exemplifies how thoughtful architecture and sustainable innovation come together to deliver lasting value for students, staff and the community.
