We are excited to host the next #HeidelbergerSalon next Tuesday, 3 December at 17:00, at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Berlin, on “Global Health Law and Justice: An Unfinished Agenda”. This time, we will have the privilege to hear from Ilona Kickbusch, Lawrence Gostin, Alicia Ely Yamin and Björn Kümmel (Bundesministerium für Gesundheit) as speakers. To top things up nicely, we are lucky to have the wonderful Alexandra Kemmerer as a moderator. Needless to say, an insightful exchange is guaranteed. The results of the #2024PresidentialElection in the #UnitedStates and the ongoing process for holding federal elections in #Germany, will have a major impact on #globalhealthlaw and #globalhealthgovernance. Historically, both countries have been key actors in the field, contributing financially as well as with scientific expertise 🔬 from public and private institutions, and having a very engaged #civilsociety fighting for #healthjustice ⚖️. The experts from both sides of the Atlantic will offer views on how these electoral issues and other political developments could reshape core tenets and conceptions of global health law and governance. 📣 Jean Monnet Module "One Health: Global and EU Perspectives" (2024-2027) 🎉 Thrilled to celebrate ONE HEALTH DAY with great news from the School of Law of the University of Salerno! We have been awarded by the European Commission a new EU-cofunded project under the Erasmus+ programme to run the Jean Monnet Module on "One Health: Global and EU Perspectives" (1HEALTH) until October 2027. 🙏 The One Health Module gathers experts of international and EU law, health law, environmental law and administrative law. My deepest gratitude and appreciation go to the excellent team of colleagues involved with me in this new project: Sandro Bonfigli, Emanuele Cesta, Francesco Buonomenna, Daniela Marrani, Pia Acconci, Agostina Latino, Sabrina Tranquilli, Giordana Strazza, Grazia Scocca. 🎯 The 1HEALTH project will offer expert teaching, training and research outputs on the One Health approach and its operationalization at global, European and national levels to tackle complex health threats arising at the human-animal-environmental interface. The focus of the Module will rest on institutional, normative and policy issues and regime interactions. It will explore the European Union's commitment to advance One Health at all levels and its contribution to enhance multisectoral and interinstitutional synergies to improve global health security. Special attention will be paid to legal preparedness related to the implementation of the One Health model at the domestic level and its impact on policy- and decision-making processes. 📌 We are ready to go! A happy milestone birthday to Lawrence Gostin, whose long career has laid the foundations for the academic field of #GlobalHealthLaw. It has been a privilege to learn from and collaborate with you, drawing from your incomparable legacy that has shaped generations of legal scholarship in global health.

Bumped into friends from different worlds at #WHS2024 #WorldHealthSummit, including Rodrigo López Tovar at the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations in Geneva (with whom I worked on the Pandemic Agreement), Gonçalo Pinto Mendes and Guilherme Gonçalves Duarte, M.D. at UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health (who advocate for greater global health action), and Pedro A. Villarreal at Max Planck Institute (an incredible researcher who chairs the Global Health Law Consortium).

📖 👀 The last decade has seen many countries taking a stricter approach to tobacco control. Some of the measures had been challenged at both the World Trade Organization and investor-state arbitration, e.g. Philip Morris v Australia, Philip Morris v Uruguay, and Australia-Plain Packaging.
