In partnership with the Provincial Government, the St. John’s International Airport Authority has entered into an agreement with WestJet to operate the London-Gatwick flight four days per week, the Dublin flight two days per week, and the Paris flight one day per week. Applications for the 2025 Research Inspired Student Enrichment (RISE) Awards program are now open. The RISE Awards will be provided to 20 Level II high school students who demonstrate academic excellence in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students selected will be provided the opportunity to attend one of three research-related enrichment programs focused on STEM, which range in duration from three to six weeks over the summer: 🏫 The Research Science Institute, located at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; 🏫 The Boston Leadership Institute, located in Wellesley, Massachusetts; or 🏫 The Da Vinci Engineering Enrichment Program, located at the University of Toronto. At a ceremony last week at Government House, Her Honour the Honourable Joan Marie Aylward, O.N.L., Lieutenant-Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, congratulated the remarkable recipients of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. The recipients are receiving the province’s highest honour for their demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner Newfoundland and Labrador and its residents. The eight recipients this year are Everard (Bud) Davidge, Clifford R. George, Liam Hickey, Saqamaw Mi’sel Muinjij Joe, C.M., Andy Jones, C.M., Patrick O’Callaghan, Guy J. Poole and Dr. Andrea M. Rose. With this year’s recipients, there is now a select group of just 151 Newfoundlanders and Labradorians invested into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador. The public is invited to provide comments on the potential for legislation to govern the Provincial Government’s use of digital technology and on how the services they use could be strengthened through the use of online digital services, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. An online questionnaire is available at engageNL.ca until November 19, where, if they haven’t already done so, residents can create a free account to take part in this, and future consultations conducted by the Provincial Government.
