IT’S ALWAYS BEMUSING TO HEAR THE DENIZENS OF DOWNTOWN CALGARY COMPLAIN HOW TORONTO THINKS OF ITSELF AS THE PUTATIVE “CENTRE-OF-THE-UNIVERSE”… All you need to do is to travel and visit the real vertebrae communities in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba to experience the real backbone of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. You know them: Grande Praire, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Fort Mac, Red Deer, Brooks, Weyburn, Estevan and the list goes on and on. These are the places where the real action is; where the real heavy lifting occurs. And to a community, they all think that Calgary thinks the sun shines out of…. Our Canadian aspirations on rapidly shifting energy fronts, including #decarbonization and #cleantech efforts, will in many ways depend on how we align and collaborate across the basin writ large. In the spirit of that outreach, put the Greenview Industrial Gateway in northwest Alberta on your radar. There, under the leadership of executive director Kyle Reiling, great things are happening, including a recent MOU with Interprovincial Fuel Solutions to build a $600-million petrochemical plant to produce synthetic lower-emissions gasoline.
