Indigenous Climate Action

Civic and Social Organizations

An Indigenous led organization working to inspire and support sovereign Indigenous-led climate action

About us

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is an Indigenous-led organization guided by a diverse group of Indigenous knowledge keepers, water protectors and land defenders from communities and regions across the country. We believe that Indigenous Peoples’ rights and knowledge systems are critical to developing solutions to the climate crisis and achieving climate justice. ICA works on connecting and supporting Indigenous communities to reinforce our place as leaders driving climate change solutions for today and tomorrow. We model our work and organizational structure on systems of free, prior and informed consent and self-determination. By providing our communities with knowledge and resources, we can inspire a new generation of Indigenous climate leaders building solutions centered around our inherent rights and cultures.

  • Recent court rulings mark a turning point for the Algonquin Nation, as well as the two million people who rely on the Ottawa River for drinking water—reinforcing that free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC) isn’t a future ideal, it must be respected now. Indigenous Climate Action stands with the Algonquin Nation in this pivotal moment. Our fight for climate justice and Indigenous rights continues, and we urge all supporters to amplify this message, hold colonial leaders and industry giants accountable, and demand that our voices remain at the forefront of decisions affecting our lands for future generations. ✊🏽🌿 Read the blog here!: https://lnkd.in/giazWmNi Looking to get involved? • REPOST - Stand.earth Yesterday, a B.C. court found that the RCMP breached charter rights of Wet’suwet’en land defenders Sleydo’, Shay-Lynn Sampson and Corey Jocko during RCMP invasion and arrests on Wet’suwet’en territory in November 2021. This victory is important. Fighting for the land and fighting for the rights of Indigenous Peoples are one and the same. We stand in unwavering solidarity with Sleydo’, Shay-Lynn and Corey. To keep up to date with their legal fight and support Wet’suwet’en land defenders, follow @yintah_access on IG. #WetsuwetenStrong #DefendLandDefenders LINK IN @STAND.EARTH's BIO

  • This #WorldSocialJusticeDay, we’re reminding our relatives, allies, and supporters to continue to actively and proactively address systemic issues and acknowledge how gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, sexuality, ableism, and economic status create barriers that impact our efforts within the climate justice movement. Real change comes from the continued collective and strategic disruption and dismantling of oppression systems that uphold white supremacy and capitalist structures while nurturing the capacities of our peoples. ✊🏾 We call on the voices and knowledge of land defenders, water protectors, and frontline communities to carry us forward into a new era of reciprocity with the land and with each other. 🌱 #IndigenousClimateAction #ClimateJustice #SocialJustice #DayForSocialJustice

  • 🌍 We're in Naivasha, Kenya for the IFIP Global Conference and are excited to be on the ground, standing in solidarity with Indigenous communities worldwide. This is a crucial moment to amplify Indigenous self-determination, challenge extractive funding models, and deepen partnerships. Together, we’re centering Indigenous voices and advancing Indigenous Philanthropy. 🌿 Here are some photos we’ve taken during our time here! 📷 #ICAatIFIPKenya

  • As we honour Louis Riel’s legacy, let’s remember the power of our kinship systems. Our strength lies in supporting one another, just as Big Bear and Louis Riel stood together to defend the land, rights, and sovereignty of all Indigenous nations. “In our own communities, we must remember our kinship systems—how we support one another and stand together, just as they did. Together, we rise, remembering the ties that bind us—our relations, our shared struggles, and our fight for justice.“ - As shared by our Engagement Manager's Papa Tommy Blyan #LouisRielDay #Treaty6 #Metis #AllOurRelations
