  • Congratulations to the Fleet Safety Council on 60 years of excellence! We were thrilled to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Fleet Safety Council and the incredible contributions they’ve made to road safety since they started up in 1965. We marked this milestone with an event at our #Toronto location that brought together current and past members and special guests. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Fleet Safety Council’s journey. We look forward to working together to further improve safety on #Ontario roads in the years to come. • Temperatures across #Ontario are below freezing this week. In these conditions, it’s essential for employers and workers to understand that cold exposure can lead to serious health hazards like frostbite, hypothermia, and musculoskeletal injuries. If you’re unable to avoid working in the cold, employers should put controls in place and help workers recognize and manage cold stress symptoms. ➡️ Check out our expert tips for preventing cold-related injuries and illnesses in the latest issue of IHSA Health and Safety Magazine: https://ow.ly/8FIP50UHWa8

    • Give cold stress the cold shoulder.
  • Workplace safety is a responsibility that we share, and protecting workers must always be our top priority. When we create a culture where workers feel comfortable reporting workplace hazards, we can prevent injuries and accidents before they happen. Dean Maguire, a highly skilled sheet metal worker with over 30 years of experience, tragically lost his life after falling from a roof at Billy Bishop Airport. During the investigation into his death, it was discovered that a worker had noticed an unsafe setup but chose not to report it, as Dean was not part of his team. If you see something, say something. Reporting workplace hazards can prevent injuries and accidents before they happen. Click on the link to watch Dean's full story - https://ow.ly/4zbv50UH0xu

  • With 11 training facilities and dozens of consultants across the province, we are able to offer training and resources to members no matter where they are. This is made possible by the input and outreach of the 16 regional committees of our Labour-Management Network. Made up of dedicated volunteers from the industries IHSA serves, the committees focus their efforts on local outreach campaigns and events, reminding everyone of the importance of workplace health and safety. These events range from hazard-specific workshops to large symposiums. From Windsor to Thunder Bay—and more than a dozen regions in between— the committees collaborate with colleges, unions, and trade associations, and engage with local businesses—particularly those who may employ newer and/or younger workers, as well as companies whose workers are engaged in high-hazard activities. • IHSA's regional Labour-Management committees spread the health and safety message across Ontario.
  • Winter driving is a major risk for large commercial vehicles in Ontario, as they are often required to work in poor winter conditions to meet shipments, schedules, and supply chain demands. That’s why IHSA has developed a 5-part video series designed to equip truck drivers with the strategies they need to navigate winter roads safely and confidently. This series introduces and demonstrates the four key principles of safe winter driving for professional truck drivers: - Being alert and prepared - Inspecting the vehicle - Maximizing traction, and - Seeing and being seen Watch the entire series now and stay equipped for safer driving this winter. https://ow.ly/I5OO50UFyzB

  • We want to thank Shirley Hickman for her incredible contributions as a founding member and the first Executive Director of Threads of Life - Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support. Her efforts have made a big difference in how organizations like IHSA raise awareness for occupational health and safety. We are excited to continue collaborating with Threads of Life in 2025 as they welcome their new Executive Director Eugene Gutierrez.
