We want to thank Shirley Hickman for her incredible contributions as a founding member and the first Executive Director of Threads of Life - Association for Workplace Tragedy Family Support. Her strength, dedication, and compassion have changed the landscape of support for Canadian families affected by workplace fatalities, life-altering injuries, or occupational diseases. Her efforts have made a big difference in how organizations like IHSA raise awareness for occupational health and safety. We are excited to continue collaborating with Threads of Life in 2025 as they welcome their new Executive Director Eugene Gutierrez. Eugene joined the #IHSASafetyPodcast in 2023 to share how he transformed the experience of losing his father to a workplace fatality into powerful advocacy for workplace safety. Threads of Life is thrilled to welcome Eugene Gutierrez as our new Executive Director, starting January 15, 2025. 🎉 As a long-time member and volunteer, Eugene brings a deep passion for our mission and a personal connection to workplace tragedy. “Threads of Life has played a major role in the healing journey for myself and my family after my dad’s death,” Eugene says. “I am deeply honoured to step into this new role and continue the vital work of this organization. I am committed to helping Threads of Life grow and expand its reach to serve all who need this support. Together, with our volunteers and partners, we will work and collaborate to bring about a world in which workplace tragedies are unacceptable.” Eugene takes the reins from our inspiring founder, Shirley Hickman, who has led Threads of Life for over 20 years. Together, they’ll ensure a smooth transition as we look toward a bright future together. Join us in welcoming Eugene and thanking Shirley for her incredible legacy.
