Destination Greater Victoria’s latest economic impact study shows the visitor economy has recovered from the effects of the pandemic overall and continues to be a significant driver of employment and economic growth in the region. According to the latest data, Greater Victoria welcomed 4.9 million visitors in 2023, generating $3.5 billion in economic outputs and contributing $2 billion to the region’s gross domestic product (GDP). In addition, the report, which was completed by InterVISTAS Consulting and based on Statistics Canada data, highlights the visitor economy’s major influence, including: ➡️ Generating $1.9 billion in visitor spending ➡️ Supporting approximately 25,000 jobs ➡️ Providing $1.1 billion in wages ➡️ $510 million in total tax contributions, supporting essential public services, infrastructure, and community projects. With a promising outlook for 2025, the visitor economy is on track to foster sustainable growth and prosperity for Greater Victoria. Celebrating 50 incredible years from the time I started with Transport Canada! 🚀 From countless miles traveled to innovative ideas shared, today marks the end of my professional journey as Special Advisor to YVR and Honorary Chairperson for InterVISTAS Consulting. Thank you to everyone who made this adventure unforgettable. Here’s to new beginnings and happy retirements! ✍️In my early days before I started my airport career I had the dream of being a published Writer so I am pleased to announce that I am about to embark on my new career and have several book projects in progress. 📗Two are poetry books (95% complete); "The Rise of YVR", as a history book, orientation, and management development guide for new and future employees, which will be part of a larger book called "Leading Airport Change". 📘Two others ("The Bruno Family Saga " and "Nonnu Gerlando's Story Book " for the grandkids, being written in parallel).
