On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, lets consider how we can make stewardship more accessible. Some suggestions would be to offer: 1) Gloves and shovels of all sizes: one size does not fit all! 2) Extendable loppers: wheelchair users can be invited to participate in trimming back invasive blackberry or cutting ivy vines 3) Knee pads: those with knee pain will appreciate being able to kneel when planting native plants 4) Ergonomic hand tools: those with arthritis will appreciate having less strain on their joints 5) Detailed info about accessiblity via email: knowing what to expect at an event in terms of accessiblity is very important to those with disabilities 6) Access to an all genders and accessible washroom: Share the location of closest all genders and accessible washroom to your stewardship area Do you have any other suggestions on how to make stewardship more accessible? Share them in the comments! #MetroVancouver #stewardship #accessibility #disability #volunteers #community #nature #invasivespecies #nativeplants
