The JA Southern Alberta team is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of a long-time supporter, Hall of Fame laureate and friend, Lou MacEachern. We wish to offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Inducted into the Alberta Business Hall of Fame in 2023, Lou MacEachern was a pillar of the Calgary community. As a PEI native, Lou started his own company, Servpro, here in Calgary, quickly becoming a success in our city. In his greater career, Mr. MacEachern became an avid volunteer, activist and mentor. Lou has been an exemplary representative of generosity, business savvy, and the entrepreneurial spirit throughout his professional life. His community engagement includes generous contributions to the Prince Edward Island Confederation Centre of the Arts, where a dedicated space exists, the Lou MacEachern Upper Plaza, in his honor. As a well-known patron of the Arts, Lou MacEachern graciously invited our team to tour his studio this past holiday season.

Inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy
About us
JA started with a vision to help teach young people about business and free enterprise. That was back in 1919, before JA became a global leader in educating youth about financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. Now in over 121 countries, JA brings volunteers together with over 10.2 million of our future leaders. We believe in the boundless potential of young people and share their passion for excellence, respect their talents and creativity, celebrate their honesty and integrity, and create opportunities for hands-on learning. The Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta charter was launched in 1960, and has grown into an organization that operates through southern Alberta, reaching more than 50,000 students in grades K-12 every year. With the help of local school boards, companies dedicated to youth success, multiple Rural Leadership Councils and a committed board, we are positioned to grow even further. Imagine what we’ll be able to accomplish with your experience and support. JA is the link between education and the business world, giving youth the confidence and knowledge they need to define personal success, enhance their workforce readiness and pursue their dreams.

JA teachers and volunteers help students navigate the stock market in a risk-free online simulation, to learn how to build a portfolio, apply ethics, and more!
