The Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is so pleased to be implementing this first ever pediatric pain standard developed right here in Canada supported by Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP). Thank you for your leadership Dr. Kathryn (Katie) Birnie, PhD RPsych and Dr. Christine Chambers. It's not easy to meet the standard but Canada's kids deserve nothing less.

Way to go The Meg Foundation for Pain for shining a light on the critical issue of racial disparities in pain care. Canada’s Pediatric Pain Management health standard makes it clear that quality pain management must be anti-oppressive and anti-racist. Download the standard to learn more here https://lnkd.in/g7qeWT96 #ItDoesntHaveToHurt
It’s #BlackHistoryMonth, and now is the time to have the crucial conversation about the significant racial disparities in pain care. 🖤 These inequalities have real, harmful consequences, and we must confront them head-on if we’re going to create change. To truly fix these systemic issues, we need to shine a light on the hard truths and be willing to face the facts. This is a critical step toward building a healthcare system that’s fair, compassionate, and effective for everyone. Let’s keep the conversation going and stay committed to a future where everyone receives the care and respect they deserve. Together, we can #DoBetter. 💪 #BeAPainChampion and join us in advocating for equity in medicine.

I was honoured to be the keynote speaker at the EPIQ meeting in Montreal this weekend, where I presented “From Evidence to Influence: Making a Difference for Children through Health Research” and had the chance to witness firsthand the remarkable Canadian-led advancements in the care and outcomes for preterm babies. These achievements are not just the result of isolated efforts but of an incredible network of NICUs from across the country, working collaboratively to improve care and ensure better outcomes for the most vulnerable infants. A key takeaway from the meeting was the power of authentic family partnerships in driving meaningful change. By including families in decision-making and care processes, we are not only improving immediate outcomes but also shaping long-term well-being for preterm babies. This work spans across various disciplines—from neonatologists to nurses, social workers to researchers—all working together to deliver holistic care. Equally important is the emphasis on monitoring, data collection, and persistence. As we continue to track progress, we’re able to refine strategies and interventions to ensure we keep pushing forward. Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success and for sharing the inspiring work being done to advance neonatal care across Canada. #EPIQ2025 #PretermCare #FamilyPartnerships #NICUExcellence #CollaborativeCare #CanadianLeadership #PersistentProgress #ImprovingOutcomes #ItDoesntHaveToHurt Fabiana Bacchini Canadian Premature Babies Foundation CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP)
